I'd like let you all know about an upcoming Net Tuesday event (January 6th, at 6:30pm at Indy Hall) on Nonprofit Blogging. Go to this page for details and to RSVP.
This might be of interest for Drupal developers who build sites for nonprofits.
Thanks and hope to see you there.
(BTW -- I'm including this post in the "Drupal for Good" group too, in case those of you outside the Philly area might want to put together a similar event in your area)
Thanks and Happy New Year

Hi all. This is going to be my first Drupal Camp experience. Yesterday I was at one of my nonprofit clients where there are a number of staff people and Americorp Vistas that I have set up with Drupal sites for projects and programs. I told them about Drupal camp and they were enthusiastic about attending. However, on looking at the agenda, I'm second guessing my advice. I want to make sure it's not going to be over their heads.
So, my question:

Let's get together and whip up some Doc Love. We'll meet for 3 hours at the DC Public Library to work on Drupal and then, if folks are interested, we can go out for food and drinks after. We have a medium meeting room (A-9) reserved from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat. November 8. (For directions to the room, see below in the Where? section.)

During the planning session for the upcoming DrupalCamp we discussed the need for sponsorship packages to help offset the costs of the event, which should end up costing about $7,000 or so, and we decided to come up with sponsorship packages. Below are my initial thoughts on DrupalCamp Philly sponsorship packages, but please keep in mind that some of the items are are up in the air, as we're still not certain whether we'll be able to offer up tables during the lunch session or whether we can put up signs on any of the rooms. Please leave any thoughts, questions, complaints, etc. in the comments. Please note that at least one of my suggestions would alter the timetable slightly.

Here's a first take at sponsorship levels. Please leave comments or edit directly if you have additional thoughts.
The following levels of sponsorship are available for Philly DrupalCamp Fall 2008. This is our first year holding a DrupalCamp in Philly, and we greatly appreciate the support of the community in raising the funds to hold a first-class event.

Read moreDC Doc sprint
As some of you may know, I've been neck-deep in Drupal's Doc team work. The doc sprints that we have had at the last two Drupalcons have been a ton of fun and very productive. I'd like to run a local sprint down in DC sometime before the end of the year. The basic idea that I am thinking right now is to find a location that will let us camp out with wifi for about 4-6 hours on a weekend. I'd be there the entire time but others could just drop by as they had time. I'd be there to help folks get situated, find docs tasks that they find interesting and generally answer questions.

Session ideas
Let's hear your ideas for sessions! Especially if you're willing to speak on the topic yourself. I think we should shoot for a mix of single-speaker sessions, panel discussions, and facilitated group discussions. Feel free to indicate how you'd like to see each session or topic handled, and/or if you're offering to host a session, how you'd like to host it.

Here are some possible venues that have been mentioned:
- Penn
- Drexel
- University of the Arts
- University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP)
- Frankilin Institute
- BaseKamp
I really favor the colleges, because (1) the facilities are a natural fit for what we need, and more importantly (2) there's a decent chance of picking up students, university staff, and faculty who would add to the community.
Read moreHelp me with PHP issues in Drupal
I am trying to learn PHP, as well as build a Drupal site. It is going to be a resource site for women in crisis. This is still in the planning phase, but I do have the site up and Drupal has been installed. What I want to know is how I can edit the PHP for certain things without breaking the site, and what the best method would be for setting up the menus and layout. I am a bit of a beginner, but I do know how to code, and I know MySQL also. Please help if anyone is available.

What kind of conference could Drupalcon Phillly model itself upon?
Drupalcon in Philly would be pretty ambitious at this point, but not out of the question (referring to the Drupalcon proposal here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/12971 ).
