Our last meetup had record numbers and it was clear that we've outgrown our current venue. Does anyone have recommendations of where we can hold future meetups?

Pay Parking
I've got a couple ideas to investigate.
Is paying for parking acceptable?
frustration is the mother of necessity
My bet is that paid parking is easier for everyone to deal with than frustrating ourselves (and other guests) by overcrowding our current venue. Based on what people have said they get out of the meetings, I think that either way (free vs. paid parking) we should find a larger venue that can accommodate us. It's important to keep this nascent group's momentum going.
UCSB Library
The UCSB Library has a conference room whose use I've gotten permission to extend to this group. There's not much more seating than 15, but there is a conference table with projector, power, and a whole room filled with wireless radiation.
Parking would be several bucks on campus per vehicle, or a 10-15 minute walk from Goleta Beach.
That's the most concrete option I've worked out yet, and for a stopgap location it should do the trick. The search continues.
SB Library System
The Santa Barbara Library System has a number of meeting rooms for public use:

Public Library Usage Fee
Looks like the Santa Barbara library conference rooms have a usage fee.
Interest-testing Bump
It's been a good many months now, is there interest in trying a new SB meetup? Anyone have any better locations than on campus?
UCSB staff developers have had several months of successful meetups, and we'd like to take our momentum to the community. I want a second voice before I arrange for a space on campus, or help finding another location.
Definite interest in a SB drupal meeting(s)
I am willing to try and help to find another location which is more "downtown" ... how many people approx. and an evening meeting? Saturday during the day? Any agenda?
Curious, curiouser and most curious ...
Weekday evening, 1-2 hours,
Weekday evening, 1-2 hours, and somewhere between 10 and 20 people.
Also, we have no money unless someone wants to be a sponsor.
The Mosher Alumni House
The Mosher Alumni House at the UCSB, it cost $150 for 2 hours or $200 for 4+ hours. Everything is included (tables, chairs, audio system, a wonderful view, etc...)

What about $10 per person to pay for the place? I'm sure we can get more than 20 people to come.
Unless we have a sponsor or
Unless we have a sponsor or two, it's dangerous to book a space like this without getting firm RSVPs from attendees. I've had to foot the rest of the bill more times than I've wanted to at recent meetups because some attendees skipped out.
Santa Barbara Drupal Meeting
We have an offer of a great place to meet, a suggestion for a day and time to meet, so what are we waiting for? Personally, almost any evening is good, the first and second Sat/Sun of Febraury are no good for me, but the Fridays work, for what it's worth. I am willing to help if someone tells me what needs to be done. Because of my work, I am not able to make phone calls during the day.
I am learning Drupal and would love to have a local group that can "lean" on each other ... where one can share both basic and more sophisticated information. Where the "newbie" like me can get some direction or help with some problem, and where we can also learn, for instance, about Drupal 7 and what upgrading when the time comes will involve, where we can get some advice and/or discussion of modules, even how to find a module to do what I want, when I don't know how to formulate my need ...
Pia
PS I also find it extremely difficult to get to the Santa Barbara group page, can only access it from the emailed links ... and I get an error when I try to reply directly even though I am logged in ... again can only reply from the emailed link. Is this the way it's supposed to be?
Curious, curiouser and most curious ...
We have an offer of a great
As this thread shows, it's difficult sometimes to get a venue. Of course, it's also difficult to schedule an event that's good for everyone. Thanks for being patient and persistent!
The good folks at UCSB Library will be hosting us on February 10th and will provide a conference room with projector (and coffee!). Please feel free to bring other light food or refreshments. I'll be doing the same.
Bring all of your Drupal questions, too! Meetups like this are a great place to ask them and get help and guidance.
The Santa Barbara group's home page is at http://groups.drupal.org/santa-barbara-ca and you can also find it under "My groups" in the right sidebar. If you continue having problems, please create a new post in the Maintenance group and we'll get it fixed.
Yes, we really need to get
Yes, we really need to get these rolling again - it is 2010 after all :)
My workplace (well, one of them...!) LCOGT.net has a super nice conference room and has kindly allowed us free use, with 2 projectors, smart board and good audio and seating/parking for 20-40. It's in Goleta, about 10-15mins north of downtown Santa Barbara on 101. It doesn't have much of a view, but I can give you a tour of the non-profits telescope build work (huge milling machines, electronics lab, optical clean room etc).
I think we should be pretty much open any weekday evening after about 6:30pm (or probably the whole day on a weekend if we like!), with the possible exception of Feb 18th/19th. I should double check before we finalize a date.
I am happy to book the room and send an e-mail update to the group once we have a date. If someone (or some people!) can help take on any of the following, that would be great:
* Figuring out a good date & time (ideally non conflicting with LA or other big regional Drupal/FOSS events).
* Posting/updating an event, with travel directions etc
* Figuring out if we want to have any presentations (15 min ignite format, perhaps?) and collecting a list of who has something to share (we could also do this on the night if we like)
* Getting coffee/snacks (donations accepted!)
Please post here with what you can help with :)
How about February 9th?
This venue sounds great. I admit, though, that I'm as excited about the tour as I am about the Drupal meetup.
How about February 9th? I'll be back in town around then, and the 9th is exactly two weeks after and before the Los Angeles meetups. I'll be able to present and post the event (using a similar layout to the Drupal Cafes we've been running in Boston, Miami and Los Angeles).
We're on for February 10th
We're on for February 10th at the UCSB Library (see http://groups.drupal.org/node/47062 for more). Can the Observatory host meetings in the future?
Drupal meeting
Would be nice, but ... The Natural History Museum in SB has a wonderful meeting room, and might do something for free or at a much lower rate. The Goleta Library is $40 per evening. My house is free as long as you take your shoes off.:)
Are most of the people living in UCSB area? I am a member of the Santa Barbara Mac User Group and there are several members who are interested in Drupal, and who live in Goleta -Santa Barbra-Carpinteria, so my thought was for a more central SB meeting place.
I have access to an LCD projector, have a screen, and wifi and can accommodate (depending on how comfortable you want to be, and size of people) up to about 15.

Las Cumbres Observatory
Owen, that is a great idea! interesting place to have a meeting. Should we suggest dates for the event? For example: during the week, anytime after 4pm works better for me. Weekends, I'm not sure.
