After a two-year absence, Startup Weekend is returning to NYC! SWNY
brings together entrepreneurs—designers, developers, product managers,
and more—for an intense weekend of collaboration that results in a
product being launched in 54 hours. It'll be held next weekend (nov
20-22) at Sun Microsystems. Awesome work will be done, David Kidder
(Clickable) will be speaking, Sun and Sun Startup Essentials will be
supporting, press will be there, and the event will be a part of
Global Entrepreneurship Week. Go to http://nyc.startupweekend.org/tickets/ to sign up.

How does Startup Weekend Work?

  • On Friday night people pitch their ideas, (there are usually between
25 and 100 pitches). We do a simple vote to narrow down the ideas, and
then people then gather around each idea and form teams. For a room
of one hundred people we generally see teams between 5-10 people and a
total of between 10-15 teams working away on 10-15 new startups.
  • On Saturday the teams come in early and work work work. During the
day, industry experts will circulate to mentor and advise the teams.
  • On Sunday everyone works until evening, when everyone gives demos of
the newly created startups to the group and a panel of industry
    experts.

It’s a great learning experience, great networking, and a lot of fun
to roll up your sleeves and get in the trenches launching a new
startup!
