As a result of the amazing discussions and sessions at Drupalcon San Francisco, it became apparent that there was a real need to start a Drupal group specifically for higher education. This group is not looking to duplicate the efforts of the Drupal in Education Group, but to serve as a space to deal with issues specific to higher education. Topics could/should include items such as the integration of student (potential and current), faculty, staff and course management systems into Drupal (CAS, Banner, ERP, PeopleSoft), back-end management and implementation, gaining administrative support for open-source projects, alumni and fund-raising activities, event/news publicity and management, and . Although there is already a group dedicated to LMS projects (http://groups.drupal.org/lms-learning-management-system), it would also be useful to discuss ways in which we can use use Drupal as a tool to support student and faculty organizations, publications, and resource management as well.
