Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.

OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Some useful links:

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313

Whats up with the documentation and community support

I have been trying to get an openpublish site up and running literally for years. Its confusing, and powerful. When I go to the website and click community, its not actually community, its a directory of documentation thats hard to navigate, missing images, and incomplete to say the least.

Dear Phase2 -- Build Some Premium Themes Plz

There are hyperlocal journalists all over the country (world?) starting community websites like mine.
But Gazette is hideous. Very few small town publications have the ability to hire a company to do all their site architecture and make custom themes -- Trustworthy companies want $2,000 to $10,000 for this.

On the other side of the spectrum, premium themes range from $29 to $79... but they don't have things like ready-made standard advertising holes and all the other stuff a publisher needs.

OpenMagazine anyone: or collaboration/multisite for journals

Hi all,

Anyone up for a collaboration to build a multisite for small- to mid-sized journals?

Let me explain.

OP2 did a marvelous job for me way back. I showed the possibilities and what one can achieve with Drupal. In my case this resulted in a website that has a complete archive of a literature journal, with author-controlled biographies, blogs, events... and hopefully soon an e-shop (cf. Ubercard), mobile webapp (cf. Services), metadata-standards based exports (MarcXML, MODS), archival/preservation (cf. exports to Internet archive)...

Is Drupal 7.x OpenPublish distribution ready?

Hello There,

I can have Drupal 7.18 installed at my server, but I thought that it would a Drupal core site not OpenPublish distribution. I installed Drupal 7.18 from my server, deleted it and installed the OpenPublish version openpublish-7.x-1.0-beta2-core.zip. I am having problems with this installation of OpenPublish but the look is exactly the same as it was the Drupal 7.18 from the server.

OpenPublish Installation

I downloaded OpenPublish (openpublish-7.x.1.0-beta7-core.zip), unzipped it and transferred the whole content to the server. I created a database with the admin user and open the site on the browser. Immediately it opens up a welcome page with a login panel. If I click on “create a user” I get “internal error”; if I click on “create an account” or “forgot password” I get “500 Internal Server Error (Internal Server Error: The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

OpenPublish and E-Journal

Hello There!

I am getting ready to install OpenPublish for the first time and this is my first Drupal installation ever. I was using OJS; this afternoon I learned about Drupal E-Journal and tonight I discovered Drupal OpenPublish. I want to publish initially one single journal and need to be able to create DOI for each article and metadata information to submit to OCLC.

My first question: 1) Do I need to install module E-Journal on to OpenPublish distribution?

1 - std drupal 7.18 + drupal_db: Install reach to end like a charm, no error msg.
2 - pushtape + pushtape_db : no error either.
3 - OpenPublish + openp_db : return this,

Error message

Using OM-Maximenu With OP3 on Drupal 7

I am trying to put in OM Maximenu as my main menu and i can't find where to put in the suggested code

<?php
print $main_menu_tree;
?>

I tried putting it in the region--menu.tpl.php in openpublish/themes/openpublish-themes/gazette/templates but it gives me the following error:

Notice: Undefined variable: main_menu_tree in include() (line 3 of /profiles/openpublish/themes/openpublish-themes/gazette/templates/region--menu.tpl.php).

What happened to the enthusiasm for Open Publish

If you compare the run up to OP2 to OP3, it's an entirely different ballgame.

Why are there so few updates and discussions about OP3??
I'm using it, by the way, and I like it quite a lot, though I'm not fan of the default theme and finding Omega-based themes is difficult-- even when you're willing to pay.

How do I remove the default Profile so I can replace it with Profile2?

Hi, I'm creating a new OpenPublish site and I need to remove the default Profile content type. I find it a bit clunky to keep adding "Author" when creating content. And I need users of the site to be able to create content as well, hence I need the Profile to be automatically connected to the account.

I found Profile2 and actually have it installed and working.

the problem is I can't see how I can remove the Profile content type. There is no delete button in the Content Type listing.

I have also uninstalled the openpublish Author and Phase2 Profile modules.

can anyone help?

OpenPublish upgrade

I tried to upgrade my site from D6 to D7. I have a customised theme. When I do upgrade, everything breaks. I have to roll back all the features to default. essentially, making the site again.

I was wondering if there is any other way? For me, features are biggest problem. I can cope with remaking my theme.

It has to be an easier way, right?

I guess this requires backup restore.

Please see attachment.

I guess there is no way out of this except for a backup restore .... yes?

I had just installed OpenPublish and was enabling many modules at once.

Core update procedure for OpenPublish

I have successfully updated Drupal core previously by deleting and replacing all folders and files except the 'sites' folder.

I have installed OpenPublish today and tried the same approach with to update Drupal core from 7.16 to 7.17.

When I initiate update.php I get the following warnings:

Notice: Undefined index: highlighted in include() (line 126 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).
Notice: Undefined index: sidebar_first in include() (line 138 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).
