Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.

OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Some useful links:

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313

Security Updates on OP alpha3?

I'm working with the alpha3 version of Open Publish and am wondering about security updates of Core and modules that are included with OP, specifically what is safe to update and what isn't?

I'm assuming that the OP folks love kittens and Core is safe to update, but is there a place I can look to see which modules have been modified and which have not so I can tell which ones can be updated?

Fatal Error: apachesolr_get_enabled_facets

Just updated apachesolr on OP V23 Build 441, then received this error.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function apachesolr_get_enabled_facets() in /home/imagenew/public_html/imagenews/sites/all/modules/apachesolr/contrib/apachesolr_date/apachesolr_date.module on line 48

The site www.imagenews.com.au has been three months in production (non-drupal user before I started so you can imaging my learning curve. That said, I'm planning a wipe-out of the site and rebuilding from scratch on OP 3.

opebpublish deploy fails with mysql error

After loading a working openpublish instance from my desktop to Acquia devcloud via svn, the deploy failed with the following error:

Not sure what to do from here.

Newbie Question - Download/Install

I am able to install OP for D6 with now trouble. But for D7, I upload the files and nothing happens.
Looking at files OP for D6 and D7, it appears that the D7 bundle is tiny. It doesn't appear there is enough there to install a drupal site.

Am I supposed to add the typical Drupal 7 software to the OP software and upload them all at once?

OP, RSS, and Kindle

I wonder if anyone using OP has used the Views RSS to provide a feed to Amazon for the Kindle. I am just beginning to look at this, and the RSS feed works quite well until you get to the articles themselves -- then the Kindle is picking up a few of the blocks a Web visitor would see on our Article detail page.

What I wonder is whether the Domain Access module might be one solution to provide detail pages without the footer and some other things we display on the Web pages.

Galleries

Hi, I installed alpha three. is there a way to create a gallery based just by uploading all the photos right into the gallery? I think it would be easier than uploading all the pictures independently and then finding them in a gallery node.

Configuration Management initiative and Drupal distributions

What considerations need to be addressed to ensure the Configuration Management Initiative is informed by and reflects the needs of Drupal distributions?

The Configuration Management Initiative tackles problems that are distinct from but overlap with what's done in Drupal 7 with the Features module, the tool of choice for producing distributions. Features allows capturing bundles of configuration and deploying them in a form that can be reproduced on multiple sites.

Installing Openpublish Alpha3 on Acquia

I would like to create a test instance of OpenPublish Alpha3 on Acquia's hosting service, which is controlled by a dashboard that only offers the Drupal 6 version of OpenPublish. Pretty sure I do not have shell access with this account. It is possible to import an existing site, but that would mean first setting up, then presumably installing-over the vanilla version of Drupal 7. I was able to do this locally, but I'm concerned this might not go well remotely. Has anyone already tried this? I am asking here, because my understanding is that Phase2/OP works very closely with Acquia.

Adding an icon next the premium content title

If anyone has any insight into how to accomplish this, I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Menu 'Navigation' not visible when logged in

I've managed to finally install OP on my site (www.numnews.co.uk) and everything is up and running except the navigation menu.
When I log in I wanted the user to be presented with links to create content etc (the links found in the navigation menu in OP admin section) However I cant see this anywhere.
Can anyone tell me where the navigation menu items as seen in the admin area (for myaccount, create content, blog etc) can be seen or displayed?

I've tried adding 'create content' to the header but this displays a load of text with it, is there a way to just add links to create content etc?

Logging is as admin - page not found

I recently installed openpublish - because I'm on shared hosting I had to install locally first and then transfer everything over to my hosting area including the database. When I installed locally I installed it to localhost/openpublish/ folder and then transferred to the root of my public_html folder.
Everything seems to be working fine except I cannot log in as admin, when I log in I get the following error message after log in:

Page not found
The requested page could not be found.

I am logged in as a user but the top left admin widget does not show.

How is the node title field configured for the "Profile" content type in OP7?

I'm interesting in how the Title field in the Profile content type of Open Publish 7 can collect information from the Last Name, First Name and/or Organization and input it as the Title. Can I configure this myself? Or do I need to know how to code to implement this myself?

Does/will OpenPublish on Drupal 7 have (acquia) media module?

Does OpenPublish on Drupal 7 have the acquia media module - this module provides excellent photography gallery handling, including extremely easy to use uploading - multiple photos at a time.

If not, will it include it?

If not including it, then can I add it without incompatibility issues with OpenPublish image handling?

Does OpenPublish image/photo handling have better features than Acquia media module?

I think the acquia media module is excellent and would be inclined to think providing yet another image handling module would reinvent the wheel.

Openpublish Drupal 6 installation error

I'd like to install openpublish based on Drupal 6, but after the choosing language I receive the message "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in D:\sites\testsite\www\includes\file.inc on line 937". (I changed the execution time from 120 sec to 300, but it didn't help).
I don't have any problems with installation of the last version based on Drupal 7.
Could anybody help me to solve my problem with Drupal 6?

Does OP includes News Slider?

Hello everybody again!

Well, I have to confess that yesterday I quit building a News/Magazine portal with OpenPublish. So I started looking for other solutions and I found many interesting themes working with Joomla but unfortunatly paid subscription (near to $100) stopped me in this way. I realise I can try harder with Drupal and OP specially! :P

Ok, I was trying to include a "slider news" frontpage and previously I read many sites talking about many slider solutions. Fortunatly there is one page resuming everything: http://drupal.org/node/418616

Using OpenPublish for a newspaper site and finding a UK host

I'm looking to set up a newspaper site using OpenPublish, the theme of the site is a user generated news site. I'm a bit confused on how to go about it and was looking for some help.
Firstly does anyone know of a good UK based host which supports OpenPublish installations? I'm looking for one with servers in the U.K.
Secondly the site I'm setting up will have a advertising revenue sharing program and was wondering if anyone knew if OpenPublish supports this - do I have to install other modules to get this to work?

Can anyone explain better than the docs at Openpublish how to publish content into the 2nd column. I can't seem to wrap my mind around it using the context inspector.
The site is on a test server at http://anthemnews4.ittybittywebco.com
