Google Summer of Code

Reminder to all students AND mentors that GSoC 2014 student applications are due this Friday March 21st at 19:00-UTC. Moving forward all students need to be submitting applications directly into Melange for review. Students need practice submitting proposals into Melange to realize it can be a pain and understand Google will NOT accept ANY late proposals.

Our awesome community recently became a bit more awesome. Drupal was accepted into Google's Summer of Code 2014! Student applications started March 10th and are open until March 21st. It's not too late to become a student, mentor, or submit a project idea. Not available to join the GSoC fun...maybe you can send an email to your alumni university mailing list?

Over the past few months we organized an initiative with Google Code-In students to learn, edit, and create ladders. During this time I truly learned the value of the ladder program and how quickly it can help new users learn Drupal with proper documentation. In fact, we plan for GCI students to work on the DrupalLadder every year which will greatly help the project grow in terms of content. Code-In is for high school students taking on basic tasks.

Are any of the IdeaScale ideas still relevant @ http://drupal-association.ideascale.com/ ? Some of these ideas will work out perfectly for a Google Summer of Code project and the ideas are already nicely documented.

Anyone interested in being a mentor or know a friend that might? Maybe you have another project in mind? Please add ideas into the 2014 GSoC Drupal Idea Wiki (https://groups.drupal.org/node/404778). We hope to finish reviewing GSoC ideas by this Wednesday night Feb 12th at midnight UTC-6.

I've written a blog post, where I try to share current status of my GSoC project with the community.

The idea is to create a module that lets users share their social profile with the fellow members in the site.

To begin with, once the module is installed, the user should be able to configure the module. He should be able to connect his account with other social sites. Once connected he has his choice on deciding what is to be displayed publicly(to guests as well as other members of the site), privately(only to other members of the site).

This module will allow users to create a structured, interactive online course, manage subscriptions to the course, track performances and schedule lesson delivery.

I came across Learnable recently and they had a neat course builder that I thought would be an excellent feature for a Drupal-based LMS website to have.

Overview

The project aims at extending the DrupalGapps (Google Apps Framework for Drupal) module by:

1. Improving and adding more features to existing DrupalGapps API.
2. Developing wrappers and applications (as modules) for Google's service-specific APIs by using the DrupalGapps API.

DrupalGapps Framework is a project that aims at seamlessly integrating Google Apps with Drupal.
