We're excited to announce a Greater Los Angeles Drupal Special Event: Silicon Beach Drupal with Friday5.org Founder Michael Berman. This event focuses heavily on the needs of startups, innovative ways to use the Drupal framework and related technologies, and the nuts and bolts of product development and customer acquisition.

Join us on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Santa Monica, CA, between 7-9pm Pacific. This will be our first-ever meetup at BLANKSPACES Santa Monica. Seating, food and drinks are limited and RSVPs are encouraged.

Friday5 Demo and Case Study by Michael Berman

Michael Berman is Founder of both Friday5, a Drupal-based crowdfunding platform for nonprofits, and Ready, a real-time location-based mobile app that brings new friends together.

Prior to founding Friday5 and Ready, Michael spent many years selling at Fortune 1000 and Fortune 500 companies. In 2010, he stumbled upon a promising little startup in Silicon Valley called Eventbrite. Michael lead Eventbrite's sales team during two years of rapid company expansion, scaling from 40 to 200+ employees, and was a part of many successes including raising 130m in venture funding.

Michael's Eventbrite experience propelled him to create a company of his own, and it manifested into Friday5, an innovative crowd-funding platform that helps take the guesswork out of finding worthy causes and making tax-deductible donations. Members who sign up at Friday5.org enter their credit card information, select the amount they want to donate to a nonprofit each week, and then receive a weekly email detailing which cause Friday5 has carefully curated for that week’s crowd-funded donation.

We're rebooting the High Performance Drupal Meetup! Join us for the first Extreme Drupal Meetup where we focus on Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking as well as devops, deployment, infrastructure, high performance hosting, monitoring and highly repeatable processes.

This meetup is on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, between 7-9pm Pacific. Those interested in attending this meetup remotely are welcome to join the webcast.

About Extreme Drupal

Formerly known as the High Performance Drupal Meetup, this event covers Drupal scalability, performance and benchmarking as well as devops, deployment, infrastructure, high performance hosting, monitoring and highly repeatable processes.

All are welcome but this is not a meetup for beginners.

We've been meeting since April, 2011, in a variety of locations around the Greater Los Angeles Area. Also, this meetup has been held at coffeeshops in the past and the addition of caffeine makes our meetings feel as if they go faster and faster as the night goes on.

What is Drupal? For large and complex websites, nothing beats it! Where do you start? What is the best way to organize your project to get the best chance of success?

This workshop will help you turn your ideas into a concrete todo list — whether you're building the site yourself, handing it off to a developer to build, or something in-between.

At this workshop, you'll have access to Drupal experts at Exaltation of Larks — a Drupal design and engineering firm with a team of experts in Los Angeles — learn about Drupal and have a fun day!

Join us September 9, 2014 for our Q3 Smackdown event where all attendees are invited to share their knowledge on the latest topics that have been consuming their time. We will open the floor to any attendee to talk for up to 5 minutes about whatever they like as long as it is something current to our industry and with the preference that it encompasses the Drupal framework in some way. We can spend all our time on these lightning talks or if we have focused interest in certain areas break out into to several smaller groups to dive a little deeper for those interested.

Join us July 8th, 2014 at which time we will be hosting 3-5 professionals and community members to lead a discussion about Site Building and then breaking out into Birds of a Feather (BoF) groups for a focused users helping users session. We'll get a good overview of various strategies employed when building Drupal sites, like whether to use Panels or Context, and how to use Views and Display Suite as strategically as possible.

Droplabs is growing and we're scouting locations for a new Droplabs on the Westside. I've lined up a tour of several spaces within walking distance of the Venice Grind (the first-ever venue of our High Performance Drupal meetups!) on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Join us!

We'll be meeting at 2:30pm the Venice Grind at 12224 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066. We'll have a chance to meet one another and then begin our tour at 3:30pm. The Venice Grind has paid parking on the street and free parking in back.
