There is a $85 bartender fee if we are to have a cash bar. If you or your company would like to sponsor this event, please contact Christefano.

Read moreFinal sprint for the Drupal Design Camp LA website on Saturday, January 29, 2011
We'll be launching the Drupal Design Camp LA site this week and I'm inviting all of you to my place for a final sprint. Top Notch Themes is done with the theme for the site and all we need in order to finish testing is for us to have some content up on the site.
Can anyone think of other things they want on the site, like a #ddcla feed or member discussion forums? This sprint is the last chance for brainstorming and implementing new functionality.
I've also posted a few placeholder pages on the dev site that we can fill in during the sprint:
- About DDCLA (what to expect at the conference)
- Where to stay (hotels near the venue that have shuttles from LAX)
- Where to eat (restaurants and cafes near the venue)
- Our Sponsors (sponsor pages with logos)
Meanwhile, it turns out that the http://designfordrupal.com domain was once used for sending spam and I'm moving everything over to http://www.ddcla.org instead. The Git repo will stay in the same place, though, and I'll make sure *.designfordrupal.com redirects to the right place, so this will be a seamless switch.

About Drupal in a Day
This introductory workshop will touch upon almost every aspect of the core Drupal framework. You will have access to the Drupal experts from Exaltation of Larks and Chapter Three and:
- Discover how to add, edit, and moderate content.
- Learn how to create user accounts and understand Drupal's permissions system.
- See how to set-up menus, and position blocks on a page.
- Create human-readable URLs, and categorize your content using Drupal's taxonomy system.
At the end of this one-day class you'll have a completed Drupal site, which looks and functions a lot like many sites you'll see on the web today.
Prerequisites
An active interest in learning about Drupal, a basic understanding of the Internet and familiarity with how websites function, a conceptual understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS). A working knowledge of HTML and CSS is beneficial (but not required).
Each attendee will be given a Drupal site on our servers, so just bring your laptop, a power adapter and any other cables you usually use.

Following the interest shown since the DrupalCamp LA 2010 keynote, the last two LA Drupal meetups and the great discussion at http://groups.drupal.org/node/100049 a group of us are checking out spaces for a coworking / hackerspace. Our first site visit is to Big Art Labs on Wednesday (Groundhog's Day!), February 2, 2011 at 1pm.
While this space will be open to all our friends in the LA Drupal community, this is not an LA Drupal-specific endeavor. If you're interested in a place where creative and technical people gather for a Drupal meetup or Drupal Café every day and the occasional Drupal After Dark at night, then join us and help make this happen!
Big Art Labs is at 651 Clover St., Los Angeles, CA 90031. There's so much parking that we don't know what to do with it all. Sign up below to be on this site visit's mailing list. We'll send you our phone number and any last-minute details if there are any.

Read moreBlip.tv and ads: one month later
At several meetups in December and January, I asked during the opening announcements if there were opinions one way or another about using ads to support the LA Drupal video channel at ladrupal.blip.tv (which we use to post meetup presentations, podcast episodes, etc.).
There weren't any objections and in experiment intended to offset costs and help make LA Drupal self-sustaining, pre-roll and post-roll ads were turned on.
In the last 30 days, LA Drupal has earned less than $5. This is less than the $8 a month that a "Pro" account costs (which is currently paid for by a sponsor *), which I upgraded it to last summer in order to get the necessary machine time to convert some of the longer videos, like the Git with Drupal workshop in June.
This brings us to today and I think it's a good time to check in.
