Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

About Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD)

Greater Los Angeles Drupal Greater Los Angeles Drupal (GLAD) is the umbrella group for most of the Drupal activity in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world. We've been bringing more Drupal to more people since 2010, and have as many as 10 meetups and other events dedicated to Drupal topics each and every month.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

The Greater Los Angeles Drupal leadership team endeavors to actively empower and support volunteers and attendees in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and to provide resources (venues, guidance, equipment, raffle prizes, etc.) and an open governance model with consistency, transparency and accountability.

What's different about this group? (?)

In addition to our unique open governance model, GLAD has a different geographic focus than other regional groups. Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010.

GLAD organizers lead a large number of events in the Greater Los Angeles Area, including Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Culver City, Santa Monica, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley, Orange County, Riverside and Ventura.

Are you a non-profit? Do you need a new website? Apply for the Barn Raising at GLADCamp!

Today is our official call for barn raising applications at this year's GLADCamp, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp!

On March 9, 2014, we'll be building a website from scratch to include much needed functionality, design, and other work required by a local 501c3 non-profit organization.

This event is "Drupal for Good in action" and is a teach-and-learn opportunity for our local Drupal community and is a win-win-win for everyone.

What's a Barn Raising?

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_raising

  • A "barn raising" describes a collective action of a community, in which a barn for one of the members is built or rebuilt collectively by members of the community.
  • Barn raising was particularly common in 18th- and 19th-century rural North America. A barn was a necessary structure for any farmer, for example for storage of cereals and hay and keeping of animals. Yet a barn was also a large and costly structure, the assembly of which required more labor than a typical family could provide.
  • Barn raising addressed the need by enlisting members of the community, unpaid, to assist in the building of their neighbors' barns. Because each member was entitled to recruit others for help, the favor would eventually return to each participant.

Just replace the word "barn" in the description above with "website" and you'll see that we've adapted this "barn raising" model for the digital world.

February SGV Drupal Meetup

Start:
2014-02-27 18:00 - 20:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

We have a great meetup this month in the San Gabriel Valley. Join us from 6-8pm at Fuller Theological Seminary, Glasser 110 on Thursday, February 27, 2014, for Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes, community Q&A, lightning talks and full-length presentations.

Are you new to Drupal or the SGV Drupal meetup? Here's a testimonial from a happy attendee:

This is a very well organized and informative session. We got a good mix of senior developers and new comers and some in between. It is a pretty good turn out with 11 people considering it is in Pasadena right around rush hours. People are just terrific, very friendly and ready to help others. Feels like I have moved forward by leaps and bounds. Thanks everyone!

By the way, GLADCamp 2014 is just around the corner! This is taking place in the San Gabriel Valley so there should not be any reason us to not be involved. Besides attending we need to look for ways we can volunteer to help make the event amazing!
