This group works on internationalization issues, like making it possible to translate menus, nodes and taxonomies in Drupal. This includes everything from process and workflows, to actual code issues or optimizations required. The Translations group is where to go if you are working on translating Drupal core or contrib modules.
Internationalization
Hey all,
Question about internationalization for everyone. I appreciate any help. I am a newbie, so please bear with me.
I have installed IP to Local, IP to Country, and ip2cc.
I download the ip2cc database, unzipped the file to modules/ip2cc/ip-to-country.csv and clicked update. That gave me a one line of text in my browser saying it was updated.
I activated/added some languages and now have an /fr page for French, for example.
In the IP to Local module I made a line in the "Country Code to Language Code mappings" text box on its own line for French "fr,fr"
Is i18n needed for our site?
Our site default language is Arabic. We use English for admin interface.
There is no node translation.
Do we still need i18n to display everything to the user in Arabic? For example, toboggan/denied- the page that is displayed when the requested document is denied to the current user. It will be always in English

I have the following situation: a site that has a second language added. Everything gets traslated. Now, I see this. There is a view with a page display. As path it gets "new-programmes/%". There is a possibility to add terms as argument. I found a solution to translate the terms. But when I open the french site I ge t this http://mysite.com/fr/new-programmes/term. I want to have the "new-programmes" translated to "nouveaux-programmes". This will result in http://mysite.com/fr/nouveaux-programmes/translated-term

Read moreTranslation Management Module
We've just released the first (working) version of the Translation Management module.
The purpose of this module is to create a systematic process for translating large Drupal sites.
Highlights
- Dedicated Translator Role - translators have language pairs and can translate only in them.
- One Translation Dashboard page - shows everything that needs translation including nodes, blocks, CCK, strings and what-have-you.
- Translation Jobs Queue for translators - each translator sees the jobs waiting for him/her.
- Unified Translation Editor - no matter what you're translating, you're always doing it from the same page.

Who is Translating?
Right now, translators can be Drupal users. You can give Translator privileges to existing users or create new users for translators.
In the very near future, we're also working on an API for interfacing to translation services. This API would be open and any translation service is invited to create a connector for itself.
The Module Itself
The module is now released and working. You can get it from:
http://drupal.org/project/translation_management
There's no official guide yet, but this blog post should be a good place to start:
http://drupal-translation.com/content/translation-management-alive
This kind of thing is an enabling feature for using Drupal on enterprise Drupal sites. Managing translation work can be a huge task and we hope that this helps.

Read moreLanguage depended menu dropdown on node form
What would be the simplest way to list all menu items - independent on the current language and still keep the "Content selection" to "Only current language". Or maybe an AJAX refresh when other language is chosen in dropdown menu.

I'm working on a website that will need to have multiple languages.
I'm using a few of the basic tools. When I create a node in the default language it will become /content/test002 is aliased to /node/227. This is as expected. I can also click the Translate tab and click a language I want to translate the node into. I'm also able to add the actual translation. This is also as expected.
Where it breaks... I'm not able to go to fr/content/test002. I get page not found.
I'm not sure what I'm missing to make this work.

Greetings!
I'm wondering if there is a module that allows the users to choose their Interface language (single choice) and Content languages (multiple choice)???
The best example of what I mean can be found on www.reddit.com. I think my attached screenshot visually explains what I'm after.

Request assistance or feedback on ongoing URL alias problem: not working when non-English default language has no (empty) path prefix
Hi i18n group,
I would be extremely grateful for any input concerning the following reported i18n issue:
URL path alias for non-English default language pages only working for some web browsers
In short, the default language for the site in question (http://www.aur.no) is Norwegian Bokmal, which the client wants to appear without path prefix 'nb' for Nowegian users. When Norwegian Bokmal is set to have null (empty) path prefix all URL aliases for its nodes fail with Page Not Found error.

I'd like to make it possible to reach each language homepage when clicking on language links in the switcher block (which seems logical).
I've just installed and configured a site with three languages (english, french and spanish) and everything is ok with the switcher when I'm on the homepage (I can reach the three homepages directly through the switcher).
Then, if I want to reach one of the two other homepages when visiting another page than the homepage in one of the blocks, the current node id goes behind the language id.
Read moreConfiguring Varnish to make it work with language negociation
Drupal comes with a language negociation (D6: admin/settings/language/configure). One of the options is "path prefix with language fallback": If a suitable prefix is not identified, the display language is determined by the user's language preferences from the My Account page, or by the browser's language settings. The latter means it will look at Accept-Language in the http request and return the preferred language. I would like this still to work, together with Varnish cache.
Read moreViews: Field "Translation Links" (& Views Translation)
Hello,
as I understand it, the Locale Module adds the Language Switcher, and i18n the Translation Links that appear directly in the nodes. So there should be a "Translation Link" Field option in Views, right? I was looking for it, but could not find it. i18n views .inc is only for language negotiation. In the views/modules/translation folder I found a .inc file named "views_handler_field_node_translation_link.inc" It appears that this would provide a translation link (although I am not sure):

How to change content according to browser language?
Scenario:
I own a website in French. Someone from the UK visits my website (with an English browser of course). Drupal recognizes its language and serves the English version of the page.
How to do this ?
Content-negociation based on the browser language (Accept-Language in Apache terms, but I don't know it has any importance with Drupal, I think). That seems pretty basic to me, bt I may be wrong (I am not a coder).

MultiLingual Links
Designed for multi-language sites. Allows you to create links to nodes which automatically update to point to a suitable translated version of that node, when available.
Link titles (the text displayed when you hover the mouse over a link) will show the node title of the translated version. If no translation is available in the current language, [language] is added to the title, so that the user can see that the link will go to a page which is not in his/her preferred language.

Read moreHow to retrieve URL of translated node in PHP?
I've translated the site using i18n module, everything works fine. I have to write some PHP code that, given default, original node ID, returns the full URL of the page.
So, e.g. full_url($nid=10) returns when English selected www.host.com/?q=node/10 , but in Dutch e.g. www.host.com/?q=nl/node/30
Is such a function available which will help me?

Multilingual blocks are not switching languages and content
We are using 6.15/Apache for an English/Japanese multilingual site, having installed all necessary modules the language switching between English and Japanese is working for menus, polls, and nodes in general.
But when it comes to blocks nothing seemed to work, we created a block with simple description text to be shown at the sidebar :
- We create the block with translation and than created string translation but the block would not switch into another language while using the content switching
A better interface for node creation and editing for multiple languages?
