Strategies for moving features from stage to production?

It's gotten to the point I've realized I should stop mucking around with features on our live site and create a stage or development site.

This seems tricky with a newspaper, though, because if you work on the stage for a week and then just move it live, you're wiping out a week's worth of uploaded content.

What are you using for moving features, etc from stage to production?

How do I create a block header without text?

I have created a Twitter feed block on my site by pasting the embed code from Twitter into a block. When I put < none > into the block title, it displays a block with no header.

I want a block with a header, but no text. I plan to use my own background image and title via CSS.

I have attached a screenshot of my block header. I basically put the letter "t" in the block title, in the block configuration and colored it white via css so it wouldn't display in the header. I have circled the white texted area in red.

There has to be a more obvious/easier way to do this that I'm missing.

Online Pay Models

I'm looking at a couple of different pay models for our online news venture. The most intriguing is metered access where each user is allowed access to a certain number of articles before they have to subscribe.

I'm leaning toward using Ubercart but was wondering if there was an easy way to set this up. Perhaps there's a module that tracks how many times specific CCK content types are viewed by each user before kicking it over to the subscription page.

Tall order, I know but many thanks in advance for your insight.

Should Drupal have a fully pre-packaged usable out of box product for social networking website to “compete” with BuddyPress?

We are now witnessing on the one hand the creation of more complex sites using WordPress with integration with social web and BuddyPress (a fully functional community website installation profile), and on the other hand a much more user friendly version 7 of Drupal and lots of pre-packaged products as OpenAtrium and OpenPublish.

And by this post I’m asking the Drupal community what can be our response to BudyPress ?
Sould we build a networking website distribution ?

For this session or panel discution I would like to use the result of several "focus groups" :

Starting the website design/building process

I officially begin the website design/building process tomorrow for the new site for the newspaper where I work.

I've been given a team, including a project manager, a tech lead, and designer/programmers -- but they're all elsewhere in the country, except for myself and our in-house graphic designer. (I count myself as a graphic designer, too; it may not be my official job title, but I've worked as a designer -- freelance and employee -- in print, Internet, and multimedia since 1993.)

Simplest way to create a subscribe page with Paypal?

I need a simple method to allow online users to subscribe to our PRINT newspaper (not online). Basically, allowing them to subscribe to the 7-day or weekend subscriptions and letting them pay for the subscription they have chosen using Paypal.

I have looked at Ubercart and the Ecommerce modules but can't tell which would do the job best and in the easiest fashion. I don't need the user to go to a cart. Once they make their choice, they just need to complete the Paypal payment.

It would just need to be a page with information, subscription rates and a means to make payment.

Format time as a.m./p.m. instead of am/pm?

I am designing a test site in ProsePoint, and I would like for times to display as a.m. and p.m. instead of the PHP default of am and pm.

I did some research online about this a few weeks ago, and I stumbled across some script or bit of freeware that someone had written for just such a purpose ... but now I can't find it again.

And even if I did ... I'm not quite sure where in the ProsePoint/Drupal installation I might need to put it in order for it to work.

Any ideas or suggestions?

CKeditor and insertion of photgraphs

I'm well aware that I can insert images within the editor panel, but I'd like more. I would like the ability to provide the user with a single 'insert' interface button that can insert a photo within its own frame and including its cutline.
I have a content type called photograph that includes its own set of supporting fields, that are distinct from articles, and I intend on allowing the selection of photographs to query against this content type when the writer creates an article.

Any advice from anyone who has seen this before?

Trying to add text field to Story content type in ProsePoint

Is anyone here familiar with ProsePoint? I'm working on a test site ... I want to have photos with credits and cutlines (captions), and I need the captions to be formatted to have a bold "kicker" that leads off the caption (the rest of the caption being in normal text).

That's not possible with the way that embedded images are handled in ProsePoint ... which is fine; I was able to set up a Photo group on another Drupal test site -- inside the Photo group was a credit field (as a node reference, so each photographer gets his/her own node) and a cutline field (text area).

A way to port complex forms from HTML to Drupal?

I've spent the last few weeks working on a test site (hosted on my own personal account) to create forms in HTML (with a little PHP add-on in the background to handle emailing the info) for the newspaper where I work. Here's one example: http://forms.polestarstudios.com/adult_birthday.html

But I've also been lobbying for us to switch our site over to Drupal (or a Drupal-based avenue such as OpenPublish or ProsePoint) for weeks.

Today, I got the go-ahead (finally) to redesign our site in Drupal; I'll get the details on Monday.

Image management - the never ending problem!

Hi,

As we all know image, any file actually, management is one of Drupal's biggest weaknesses. It has been debated since the beginning and there exist a virtual labyrinth of different solutions for it. I would say that looking at all the modules touching this more or less all features needed for Drupal to have excellent file management exist. The problem though is that very little is compatible with each other (won't go into that snake pit in this post though...)

Paging using CCK, not the node body field

Hi,

I have been looking into the best way of breaking up long articles in pages when using the CCK textarea field. The paging module does only work on Drupal's default body field, which I want to avoid as the CCK textarea field offers more flexibility.

What I would like is to be able to define something like a paging fieldgroup in the content type. Then I could use more than one CCK field unique for each page. A simple example would be a text field for the page title in combination with a text area for the page body.

Print-to-web daily newspapers

I am working for a daily newspaper part-time; I have been researching and experimenting with Drupal (and OpenPublish and ProsePoint) in the hopes of being able to convince the corporate office of the media syndicate (on the other side of the country) to consider a different CMS than the one we're currently using.

I would appreciate input, feedback, and experiences from other daily newspapers, especially on the print-to-web experience ... particularly if you are using InDesign and/or NewsEditPro.

Hyperlocal News and Global News on the same Drupal site - Google News

We have a problem with our news site. Maybe its not such a big problem but we dont know how to take on the problem.
We do hyperlocal news which means that if a car breaks down in town or something happens like the lights stay on all night in the streets we report that, however, We also do global news which is our main focus.

Does anyone have any tips on how to mix this in Drupal without screwing up the Google News rankings etc? Hyperlocal news and Global news on the same site?

Thanks for any info
