Schedule

9:00 a.m. Registration and Breakfast
9:30 a.m. Morning Session
12:30 p.m. Lunch
1:00 p.m. Afternoon Session
5:00 p.m Conclude

A bagel breakfast and pizza lunch is included.
Each student needs to bring their own laptop.

We will cover basic Drupal site building from installation through the creation of new content types and displaying custom lists of site content (CCK & Views). The fee for the training is $35.

Location

NYU Poly
6 Metrotech Center
Rogers Hall Room 215
Brooklyn, NY 11201

We are grateful to Chapter Three | Drupal Experts in San Francisco for providing a Drupal site for each student in this course.

Just in Case: Download the Acquia Drupal Stack Installer appropriate for your operating system.  You simply need to have this installer available, but do not need to install anything. If there are any network problems reaching the student sites, we will help you install and configure the stack and can continue the class.

Absolutely new to it, but excited to begin learning and putting together some websites that I've long wanted to create. I'm not entirely certain how to navigate these groups, so any and all info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

I didn't go to the Train The Trainer day, but I would like to be there to assist the trainers in anyway needed.

Good luck!

Just a shout out -- the Seattle DUG has had 2 one-day "Drupal Clinic" workshops so far. Both of them went pretty well, and I hope yours does too! We have some curriculumn and Lessons Learned at
http://poplarclass.com

Also, I'm participating/moderating a panel discussion at DrupalCon Chicago on "Community Based Training", so I hope you will come and share your experiences during the Q&A.

Thanks

Yep, noticed that SDUG was doing that (I think DC also).

@jhodgdon I noticed that panel too. Don't think I'm going to drupalcon myself, but perhaps one of the instructors who is going will attend your panel. You may want to consider adding someone from the NYC group to the panel.

Although this is the first time we've run an intro training camp as it's own separate event, we've been basically doing a full day Drupal training at our normal camps for the last two years or so - so this will be like 5th or 6th time for us.

I started a project to collaborate on open source courseware for Drupal at http://gitorious.org/drupal-open-curriculum - once Drupal is fully on git I'm hoping to bring it back to d.o.

The specific course we'll be teaching from is this one...

http://gitorious.org/drupal-open-curriculum/drupal_6_site_building

It is written in docbook xml, but the output is available as html at this link...

http://gitorious.org/drupal-open-curriculum/drupal_6_site_building/blobs...

Feel free to contribute to this project or even consider adding your course notes as an alternate course.

Regards...

Are you recording the training?

banjodolly's picture

Hi there - I wish I could come to the event, but I'll be out of town. Any chance you'll be recording it for those who'd like to watch it later?

thanks for organizing this!

Hard to say

winston's picture

Bit of a tall order to record 8 hours of training. I doubt I'll be recording my session, but there will be two classrooms so perhaps the other classroom might.

If it is successfull

winston's picture

Hopefully we'll do it again relatively soon.

drupal 7?

erikosmond's picture

Will this event be relavent for someone who has experience on drupal 5 but wants to build a site using drupal 7?

Speaking as an assistant that

robbiethegeek's picture

Speaking as an assistant that has seen the curriculum it is Drupal 6 focused, so it will not move you to Drupal 7. It is geared towards those that are totally new to Drupal.

Robbie

Agree with Robbie

winston's picture

This won't be a good fit for you.

Not to be a shill for anyone, but the webchick tour event coming to NY actually might be a better (although obviously much more expensive) choice for you.

will there be more advanced sessions?

patoshi's picture

will there be more advanced sessions? like how its done during drupal camps where we pick which classes to goto?

No

winston's picture

This is not really a camp. It is a one day hands-on intro to drupal training targeted at folks new to Drupal. It starts with installing drupal and ends with how to use CCK and Views to build a basic site. No programming. No theming (other than applying themes).

cant wait. thank you vets for

Awwww man

As the husband of a 1st year surgical intern and father of a 2 and 5 year old, sadly, as much as I wanna make it, I can't.
If any y'all wanna babysit while I'm in class, I can go ;)

If this is wildly successful, any plans on having one every 3-4 months?
I would like to make it.

Not only to learn Drupal, but to network because I've got a hot project that could be a game changer if I had the right resources on board.

Well happy Drupalling y'all!

About Registration

oacruz77's picture

Father Shawn/Winston,

I registered and paid for the intro camp on January 6th. I am 50/50 on attending due to an ear infection that I am dealing with for the last two days. In the event that I am not able to attend this Saturday at NYU-Poly, do you have a wait list of individuals who are looking to attend? I'd be more than happy to discuss offline with you guys. I am hopeful that the ear infection subsides by tomorrow, otherwise I am not sure I will be able to attend.

HUGE THANK YOU!!!

Pistachio Pony's picture

I had a great time at my first camp!
I want to thank all the organizers, teachers and assistants. It could not have been easy to set that up and I really appreciate all the hard work that went into it. It was soooo organized and went really smoothly (until we all decided to ping the server at once! :)
My faith in humanity has been restored and I learned a lot too!
So thank you thank you thank you!

I really enjoyed the intro camp. Thank you so much to all those involved. Everyone was so supportive. What a wonderful community! I am so happy to be a part of such a nice group of people.

Thanks Folks!

We'll have a feedback form out soonish as well as instructions to load the class files into a local Acquia Stack so you can work on the class on your computer/at your leisure.

I know how much work it takes
