I was at a meeting of Long Island Linux Users Group (http://lilug.org) at Farmingdale college last night and they were looking for a topic for their October (14th) meeting. I suggested a presentation on Drupal. While I'm bullish (if you will) on Drupal I don't feel that my skill level is up to giving a presentation. Would any one, two or more of you like to offer to give it? The meetings are from 8-10pm and the Farmingdale campus is convenient to the LIRR station if anyone needs transport to and from the city. I can help with that too, (pick up and drop off). They would like me to post on their wiki asap so the sooner we can come up with something the better.
Thanks
Wes

I would definitely love some
I would definitely love some one to reach out to our Linux neighbours. Our current user base is very beginner/intermediate heavy and i feel that bringing in linux guys would balance things out towards more advanced users.
Personaly i am a bit overloaded with other projects regarding NYC DUG and i would love some one to step up to this.

Where's Farmingdale College?
Where's Farmingdale College? How far is that from the city? If it's not too far, I'd be interested in giving a talk on Drupal.
Mike
Where's Farmingale
It's on Long Island, moderately far out - commuting distance.
directions: http://www.farmingdale.edu/ifs_contact_us.html
It's about an hour by train from Penn, I imagine someone in the group would pick you up at the train.

@ixlr8 as I said in my
@ixlr8 as I said in my original post I'd be willing to pick up and drop off at the Long Island RR station. Plus I'll co-host so to speak so whoever does do the talk I can help some. If someone does have to go by the LIRR they have to take the Ronkonkoma line to the Farmingdale station. The LIRR map is at http://www.mta.info/lirr/html/lirrmap.htm and the schedule can be found at http://lirr42.mta.info/index.asp. I would suggest a one way peak ticket ($9.75) to and a one way ticket off-peak from ($7.00) but buy it at Penn Station (or Brooklyn). Travel time (on the LIRR) is a tick under an hour (the 6:53 pulls in at 7:45 and the 6:21 pulls in at 7:12) for the return trip the 10:39 gets you back to Penn at 11:32.
Again I will pick up and drop off and GREATLY appreciate the help.
Thanks again
Wes

Another LI'er
Hi,
I'm from LI and pretty familiar with Drupal. I'd also be willing to help out with transportation and even help presenting Drupal to LILUG. I went to one of their meetings when John Barlow spoke.
What were you planning on presenting?
Presentation
I figure to begin with what is drupal, the community & it's similarities/differences with a lot of other open source projects, the fact that it's modular and object oriented in it's paradigm but not it's practice (and maybe the reasons for that). Maybe some history and the direction it going in, what it can do, what are people using it for, showcase sites using it, then about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs in, cut to Q&A.
If I could just get a co-pilot I'd be really really happy
Wes
I got your email
Wes, although my live servers are linux, i never had a linux box of my very own (how sad does that sound?)
However, I could possibly take the train out there to give you some support! ... However, I couldn't give any examples on how to install on a linux box. But that might not what you need: if you are out there to introduce Drupal to the group and extol its virtues (and vices) I would be happy to do that.
Lemme check my schedule. I just got picked up for a full time gig with an aggressive launch schedule and that might be close to the launch date!
Anyway, I would love to help you out. If I can't be there in person... I can work with you to develop a topic roadmap ... and you won't feel so alone.
