NYPHP

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello,

I run NYPHP and we're speaking to framework groups in order to loosely partner for cooperation and cross-pollination. While every group would remain it's own entity, whether part of a larger global community or not, the groups would also be NYPHP SIGs.

NYPHP has been around since 2001 and already cooperates with a number of other groups. We've seen the obvious growth and importance of various frameworks and can help groups in various ways (all free of course), including:

-- providing mailing lists (administered by whoever wants to)

-- server space

-- meeting space

-- speakers and presentations

-- organizational help/advice

-- visibility and listing on NYPHP.org as a SIG

-- sharing of knowledge, (if it's a PHP question, ask here, if it's a Drupal question, ask there, etc)

-- anything else people may want?

What does NYPHP want? Well, nothing really. Just to work with all the various framework communities out there to build a more coherent community for PHP overall. We would simply ask that this logo http://www.nyphp.org/show_participation.php be added somewhere. We'd also like to list your events, and would ask that you list our monthly events as well (which are always free).

In the end, the various frameworks all have their own communities already. But they all share a common core (PHP, et al) and working together in the past has been a good thing. So, we're making an effort to reach out to other similar groups to increase visibility and overall potential by cooperating, rather than there being a bunch of disjointed and monolithic groups.

I'm not clear who's decision this would actually be, but I wanted to get the word out and see where things go. Looking forward to some feedback.

Hi Hans! I would imagine

Hi Hans! I would imagine that many in the group would be interested in sharing knowledge and presentations with the PHP group. It would be a great help if we could direct individuals who want a better understanding of PHP fundamentals to an introductory session with your group. Further, I'd imagine that our advanced members would be interested in presenting their work on the Drupal framework to your group.

Hi Adam, thank you for the

Hi Adam, thank you for the note. I certainly agree there's good cross-cooperation potential for discussion, help and presentations. We'd be open to a presentation over the summer if you know of anyone, or if someone special will be in town at a certain time.

Is there an online forum/mailing list for Drupal in NYC? I can put a mailing list up like we've done for Joomla and ZF for technical support and activity coordination. If this is something the group would be interested in just say the word.

I've also noticed another thread about there being a possible get together this week in NYC. We know a local lounge/restaurant in the Wall Street with a backroom, wireless, and LCD that we could reserve free. I'm out of town starting Thursday night, but would be happy to check on the space, and would attend if it happens Wed night. I could also help get the word out if there's interest in that. Might be a nice chance to meet/greet everyone.

Thanks for the offer to set

Thanks for the offer to set up a mailing list, but I think we're covered. This group functions as our official mailing list and forum (you can subscribe to email notifications). Getting together PHP and Drupal folks sounds like a good idea, and while someone just suggested/posted an informal meeting this week, I suspect some folks who went to Drupalcon last week could use the time this week to catch up on work/loved ones and "sleep". Maybe next week would be better, so we could also meet you?

Sounds good - of course if

Sounds good - of course if things change, the mailing list offer stands. I'd also be happy to exchange links with as we've done for others like ZF and Joomla - let me know.

Does this group have regularly scheduled meetings outside of the meetups? If not, perhaps we can plan an informal get-together either Thursday or Friday of this week. Would either of these days work?

Has any plans for a meeting

Has any plans for a meeting over the next week come to fruition? I didn't see any posts about but I'm also not sure if I'm on the right "node" for it.
