The United Nations Millennium Campaign is seeking an intern to assist with the Campaign's new Drupal-based website (in development).  The Campaign supports national efforts around the world to hold governments accountable to their promises to achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals by 2015.  The MDGs are 8 targets agreed to by every member state to end extreme poverty by 2015. Candidates must be able to work 2-3 days a week at the UN offices in New York.

About This Internship:
This is not a get coffee and file some stuff internship. The successful candidate will be an integral part of Campaign web team.  They will be an active member of the Campaign's online community.  The intern will actively share the Campaign's message through our site and across the web in various outlets. They will be asked to offer creative ideas for engaging new supporters and encouraging others that we are "The generation that can end poverty."  We are seeking that rare mix of technical know-how and great communications skills.  You will be challenged, learn a ton, and might just have a great time.

Duties:

  • Assist with development of online marketing strategies
  • Assist with development and launch of new site including basic Drupal activities and bug fixing
  • Moderate user content
  • Write stories and blog posts for the site
  • Help produce rich audio and video media
  • Provide assistance to National Campaigns located around the world
  • Maintain Campaign presence on various Social Networking sites
  • HAVE FUN! working closely with the communications team in a fast-paced and rewarding environment
  • ...And much more.

Requirements:

  • Have an interest in development issues or related experience working in the field
  • Be able to receive course credit for internship at Undergraduate or Graduate level
  • Able to commit at least 2 days a week for 3 months to the internship
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • A basic knowledge of Html
  • Past experience working with Drupal websites including ability to install and maintain modules
  • A strong command of English (Preference for candidates with a second language, especially French or Spanish)
  • Preference for candidates with at least a basic knowledge of PHP
  • Preference for candidates who can work in a Secure Shell environment
  • Candidates in Graduate programs are preferred, but undergraduates will also be considred
