Just wanted to start a discussion here since we are not having a Drupal meetup tonight since we have no venue space.
So here goes:
Do you have space to host the monthly Drupal meetup on the first Wednesday of every month or know anyone who would be interested in doing so?

I suggested to Eric that we get paid space and a sponsor.
Or we can kick in some monies.
I know of a space around Penn station.
Free space is always at the whim of someone.
Another group I belong to has had 6 locations in 6 years. Some lasted a few months.
Add to our great problem of almost 100 people showing up and most corporate places are out.

A paid space may work out for the better. Do you know some ballpark prices for a space once a month that would accommodate us?
We looked into it at NBCUniversal and it is supposedly many thousands of dollars for the time we would need it plus the sign up list needs to be submitted a week ahead of time.
I can look into sponsorship though.
What happened to CPX
I recall that they were very eager to share their space with us. We can make that space work for sure with a little thought.

Some Ideas
I don't know of anything specific, but here are some ideas someone could look into:
Co-working spaces often have large meeting areas and look at these meetings as a marketing opportunity. The WordPress Meetup often has met at New Work City.
Universities will often give free space for meetings for community groups. No shortage of those in the city (various CUNY [John Jay, Baruch], NYU, Yeshiva, Columbia, etc.) conveniently located.
Library branches will often have meeting space.
That's my $0.02.
I'm a Grad Student at CUNY's
I'm a Grad Student at CUNY's Graduate Center, which is located next to the Empire State Building.
I know that there is some student space that I could get for us for free, but it depends on our needs both with technology available and with how many people will be coming. The rooms that I'm thinking of could handle probably 50 people a piece, and they have projectors.
But they don't have a plethora of tables to pull out laptops and start working together. Depending on the times, there are some other spaces right around there that could be taken over for smaller working-group sessions.
If I reserve the space, however, I have to be there, and unfortunately, this semester and next, I'm teaching on Monday and Wednesday nights (I've wanted to go to these meetups for a while but have had teaching conflicts), so if we use this space, we'd have to change the day of the meetup, which probably isn't ideal.
So,
Pros: Free, Free Wifi, Convenient Location
Cons: Possibly too small (?), maybe not enough work-space, we have to change the day of the week.
