We have a big change on the horizon with the advent of Drupal 8. We are going from a procedural architecture to a mostly object oriented framework leveraging the best in todays PHP tools.
In this coming meetup I'd like to welcome the community to share their insights and questions regarding our new version of Drupal. I can share some of my experiences to date and some of the challenges I believe seasoned Drupal 7 developers will face.
In addition, being that D8 is object oriented we should welcome folks outside of the Drupal world to participate and grow within our community. I see this new architecture as a great way to attract seasoned developers from other disciplines to the exciting Drupal world.
I'd also like to open a dialog about getting us, as a community, together to contribute back to the project. This can be accomplished in a multitude of ways but I'd like to collaborate amongst us to come up with a way we can all contribute.
Towards this goal I'd like to welcome any NYC folks that have core experience to take a little ride out to Huntington and share with us any insight on how to best contribute to the project. Launchpad is a cool spot and we are a welcoming group!
Before our meetup please share some of the topics you are interested in and/or currently focused on within D8. I will be posting some topics as we approach our meetup.

Mock Site Build?
Perhaps we can build a mock site with some basic functionality so we can see some of what has changed? I'm sure as we build it will spark some conversations.

Mike, I like that idea. Lets collectively explore D8 together. We can run the installer, check out the default modules and see if we can build a quick mock site.
