Now that DrupalCampNYC 8 is over, we're asking for your feedback to help us make the next DrupalCampNYC the best one ever!

Please take a few moments to fill out our brief survey and let us know what you liked as well as what could have been better.

The camp is only as good as the feedback and suggestions we get and the work of volunteers who help make the event happen -- We're so grateful for your feedback, and look forward to seeing it.

Thanks again to fellow organizers and participants for a great DrupalCamp!

Drupal Camp

Very well done! Thank you!

The only improvements would be very small: a few more directions signs the first day, more coffee! :-), more print outs of the schedule the first day.

Offer the guard pizza.

Maybe have some CDs (since they are now so cheap) of the Drupal set up to give out. I spent hours for various reasons trying to down load files. The format you have
them on the Internet is a pain, which is not your fault. Put 7-Zip on the CD since it is free with maybe a blurb about how to use it since that isn't obvious, at least to a Mac person like me.

I think you did a great job. The speakers I went to were useful and the beginning session was very helpful.

The organizers and the volunteers were great.

My general comment is that this was a VERY good camp, many excellent speakers, and it gave very good value for the dollar. I'd pay 2 or 3 times the price that I paid for what I got out of this.

I have some comments about the camp and about logistics, and rather than being That Cranky Guy That Does Nothing But Complain, I will start by saying that I'll volunteer to help implement these things next time, if any of you think any of them are a good idea and would like the help.

  • The schedule with the live links to each talk was quite valuable; I think that schedule ought to be in that format, and kept up to date. In other words, have one schedule, rich in information.

  • Every schedule change ought to be updated on the online schedule, written on the board, tweeted, and announced on IRC.

  • Put printed copies of the schedule all over the place, including on or near every door where a session was scheduled. Put the name of the session being done on the door.

  • More coffee! :-) and something to drink with lunch (water? soft drinks? iced tea? juice?)

  • Figure out a way to let people all eat in one place if they like, and at least be able to sit down and chat.

  • Have the slides for all the talks on a single web site. Burn CDs of the talks, OR make giveaway memory sticks.

  • There ought to be a room logistics runthru. Make sure the projectors are working and that anything projected is actually on the screen :-). Someone ought to bring a bag of adaptors too :-).

  • Maybe some speaker guidelines would help (like "this is the hardware that will be available to you in the rooms"). The most consistent comment I heard was "MAKE THAT BIGGER PLEASE" or "CHANGE THE COLOR PLEASE" because things were either too small or had odd color palettes that made things basically unreadable. A simple checklist ("Things To Make Sure That You Do If You're A Presenter") would probably go a long way.

  • Has anyone ever considered more structured tracks in one of these camps? Or even a tutorial track?

If you could fill out the survey for us that would be fantastic.

Suggestions

Katharine_Gates's picture

I only attended Saturday and it was my first DrupalCamp and it was GREAT!

My primary thought is that there needed to be a few more very basic sessions, at the beginning on Saturday, for the non-programmer. Maybe oriented to Content folks who nevertheless need to know the basics of getting a basic site up or at least knowing how it does what it does. i.e. "Drupal 101 -- what's a module, what's a theme?" Setting up a Local environment, Basic Theming 101: Taking and modifying a free theme, Creating a Zen subtheme.

I suggest this because there were quite a few well-meaning beginners who really needed lots of help and who were asking extremely basic questions in other sessions that were devoted to deeper subjects. Having until very recently been one of those people myself, I can tell you I would have been excited to attend.

I would be happy to volunteer to run a session or two like this next year if you think there would be a need...

(Yes I also filled out a survey)
