OpenPublish

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.

OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Some useful links:

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313

Taxonomy inherit in feeds

I have set up open Publish (looks great) and have created a feed that is coming in as a feed type. I set a taxonomy topic on the feed of "topic x". To do this I had to add the topic taxonomy to the "feed node content type". I also added that taxonomy to the feed-item content type.

OP2.0 and nice menus like the OP default menu

As so many people requested, here's a short guide on how to get nice menus into OP2.0 installation.

First download the nice menus module from here.

Install the module as usual into the Drupal installation (sites/all/modules).

Go to admin/build/modules and enable the module
Then go to admin/settings/nice_menus. Set it to the number of nic menus you want (I use 1)
Then go to admin/build/block and configure your "Nice menu 1"

Menus - Nice Menu Items Disappear

I created a Nice Menu for my primary navigation and added a drop-down item. When I try to access the item, it disappears when I mouse-over. I have to "sneak up on it" to get it to work. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? You can try it yourself: go to the "Local" menu, then try to follow the menu down to "Crime."

Views - All Blogs Not Listing

I have a view that lists blogs by author. It picks up the blog, displaying the blog entries grouped under the blog's author. Here's the problem: after displaying the first blog, it stops, never displaying subsequent blogs. Here are the view's settings:

Relationships: Content Author(s)
Content Author(s)
Arguments: Author(s)
Fields: Node Title
Content: Author(s) Title(link)

Sort: Updated date asc
Filters: Node: Type = blog

What am I missing?

Views - front page article

I'm looking for some advice on how to create a couple of blocks similar to the Homepage Articles Block.

What I'd like to do is group all articles in two main types, say, X and Y.

Then I would like to create subtypes of X and Y, say, A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

I have no problem with creating the subtypes in taxonomy, but I'm not sure how to create the two main types and have them show up like the Articles Homepage Block.

Everything displaying in far left column now.

Not sure what I did wrong. I didn't change any code or any settings. I edited an article on the front page and all of a sudden I have my articles, blogs, tweets and ads all in the left hand column now. It's like it's a CSS problem, where one column is too wide and pushes everything down. But i didn't touch any code to do so. Any ideas?

How to Customize Nice Menu CSS?

I have nice menu working, but I'd like to customize the CSS to be more like the OP primary menu. The documentation says I should create a new .css file and specify its location in the build/themes settings. However, when I do that, the menu goes from horizontal to vertical and the css is unchanged.

Can someone share how they customized the nice menu css? Thanks.

Embedded video and JW Flow Player 4

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a way to make embedded videos play in the flow Player 4 that comes packaged with OP 2.0? After I enable the module it doesn't come up as option in the display fields on the video content type.

How to Theme a Block?

I'm hoping someone has a podcast or tutorial on how to theme a block? I created a block of a view, now I'd like to theme it. (for instance, I'd like to specify the width of the table and place a graphic where the blog author text goes.)

How to List Blogs By Author?

Currently, blog entries on the front page are listed sequentially; that is Blog Author 1, Post 1, Blog Author 1, Post 2. How do I list (maybe through a view?) Blog Author 1, Post 1, Post 2? An example of what I'm aiming for is at the TNR.com. Blog posts are collated, so that Jonathan Chait has his blog posts listed together.

How to Add Resources to Articles?

I'd like the ability to add online resources to articles. I know you can create individual resources and that you can attach photos or video, but is there a way to include web links at the bottom of an article? Is there a way to add something like that to the article content type?

I Love OP

Yes, there are problems. (Need a slideshow/dynamic content).
But I know NOTHING about CSS, almost nothing about HTML, NOTHING about php.
And yet, I've got a pretty good damn website.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And the readers of our small newspaper's website thank you, too.

Dynamic Content

I'm not up on web building lingo, but I am looking for some sort of module/slideshow dynamic content block that can be used for OP.
I'd like to be on the front page, which is tricky because of the OP three-column layout
Is anyone using anything like this? Any tips on a direction?

A Head's Up

I've been having problems with the "wrench" not working, and not being able to get to "create content", plus some other small problems. I've mentioned this elsewhere.
However, I found out that some program is filling up the /tmp directory on my hosting service. When this is filled certain things stop working. So, here's the possible "head's up".
It may be that OP is saving "sessions" in this /tmp directory. And, not deleting them when finished.

Is there an easy way to turn off Calais?

Hello group!

Does anyone know how to disable Calais? Due to all the dependencies it looks very difficult to disable it by disabling the individual modules. I saw in a previous thread that the option to switch it on/off within the Admin was supposedly added. But I don't see it anywhere.

Thanks!
Rob

Third time is a "charm"?

Well, here we go again.
The theme has turned into a white page again.
What is wrong with OP that this keeps doing this? As I've mentioned before, I've never had any problems of this kind with the regular Drupal, or other programs. Only OP.
Do we have a potential bug here that nobody in development wants to look at? Or, .....
Seems to happen about every other day now.

No changes have been made to the theme, or any part of the program that I can think of to cause this.

Not good for production.

Bob

Are Topic Hubs A Good Section Alternative?

We are growing an increasingly large library of summer softball articles; would a collection of these make an appropriate topic hub? Has anyone created a topic hub? Also, could a topic hub be substituted for a section? That is, we could create a topic hub for school coverage, or crime coverage?
