Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313
Times for events
I'm playing around with OP events, and it doesn't look like this was configured to enter the event time, only the date. I tried to exchange the event date field with a field that includes time and date, but now I'm having problems getting anything to display.
BTW, I also add the jquery date popup, that makes it easier for people to choose dates and times. I would think this should be included standard with any event-type feature.
Thanks.

Hi
I am having problems installing OpenPublish 2.0 on XAMPP with php5.2.9.

How do I create a context that duplicates the three-column design of the frontpage?
Read moreImagecache and articles
I was wondering about the way that images are associated with article.
When I use the main image/thumbnail image the files are uploaded to sites/all/files (which is the default path) with the thumbs going to a folder called imagefield_thumbs that is created on the fly. However, the template is trying to pull the images for the article from the imagecache folder so it displays a broken image.
The same goes for the Author image assigned in the author content type.

images not showing in Safari
Hi, I'm working with a recent install of OpenPublish 2.0 and am finding everything to be really smooth so far, but for one thing. Images uploaded through the OP interface are not showing up in Safari. There are greyed-out placeholders where the images would be but no image. They look fine in Firefox. I looked around online and found some sense that last year people were writing in various Drupal fora about this problem. The upload/ file browser, while available, doesn't work--it gets hung-up--and the images do not show up (in Safari).
Read moreFeeds vs FeedAPI
My understanding is Feeds is the replacement for FeedAPI.
Does this mean we can remove the FeedAPi from modules?
I noticed there are some enabling issues with OP proprietary modules associated with FeedAPI.

Read moreImport Old Blog Data
Hello,
I use to have a Blogger blog but I am migrating to using OpenPublish for my blog. Before I found out about OpenPublish I actually imported my Blogger data into a Wordpress blog too, so I have the same blog content data in both Blogger and Wordpress systems. So is there an easy way to import data into OpenPublish from either of these 2 systems? Or do I have to copy and paste everything into OpenPublish?
Thanks
Read moreHow about a user handbook for editors and authors?
I think creating the website is just half the battle. Training editors and authors to use it a huge task too, something I greatly overlooked. A great documentation resource is being built on openpublishapp.com for building the site. How about developing something similar for people who use the site daily to submit articles and blogs? A lot of small publications that will be using OpenPublish can't just hire a full time web editor. I keep thinking that I should really stop and write detailed instructions but it's the last thing I want to do.

Author pages broken after update of modules
I confess it was not a smart move of me updating a module without backing up what I had before, but I am still learning drupal!
anyway, I updated op features and now the author pages are not displaying anymore. all the other pages are working fien apart from this.
Author content is there, I see author bios at the end of an article as intended, the problem is when I click on the name of an author and I end up in the author page where Ic an get the message: " THIS IS A AUTHOR TPL from module folder"
How to Create Front-Page Layout Elsewhere?
I'd like to use the three-column layout found on the frontpage elsewhere on my site. My goal is to create a landing page for each section. The three columns would be top news stories in the left, recent headlines and blogs in the middle and ads and assorted content in the right column.
Currently, the design jumps from the three-column frontpage to the two-column listing page. Is there a way to convert the listing page into three-columns, like the front page?

Hello,
I just downloaded and installed OpenPublish today and have started playing around with it. I have a few questions:
1) How do I get rid of the default OpenPublish images? For example, at the very top of the OpenPublish default theme there is an image that says "A smarter solution for today's publishers' and below it there is another image that says 'OpenPublish Journal'
2) How can I configure the "Our tweets" to integrate into my twitter account and not the OpenPublish twitter account?
Theme broken
Late yesterday I looked at my site and the theme is broken. All I can see is text on a white page but absolutely no format. Everything else works as in links, etc. but no format. The theme broken is the base OpenPublish theme with no sub-theme.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I've noticed a problem when I try to view a new user's account. When I click the "edit" tab, the user's name and email flashes, then is replaced in the screen with dots and dashes, with the text seeming to mostly drop out of the boxes. The only thing I can do is either approve or block the user, without knowing whether they are a person or a spambot.

Read moreMake teasers optional
Most of the features of Open Publish I really like, but one of them is causing me problems: The teasers.
I can see the advantage of having a separate, custom teaser if you are doing a magazine-style site. But for the news sites I'm working on, adding that teaser text is getting in the way. Specifically, we do a lot of posting via an iPhone app called Blogpress, that works via the BlogAPI module. The problem is, there is no way to fill out the teaser field using this method, so all of the stories we post would go up without a teaser, and that would be bad.

Yipes here goes...
I'm thinking of buillding a multi-site, 1 site owner with variations of content on 3 sites total.
I really don't have a complaint about building 3 op sites. I was just thinking ongoing site maintenance and upgrades would be easier.
The site will be on a shared server with plenty of memory and bandwidth.
I have a couple of OP working on shared servers now, and haven't had problems. That may be because I delete news feed articles after 2 weeks, and use poormans cron with a 3 hour cycle.
