Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313
Shared Hosting and openpublish 1.7* (Godaddy)
It may be due to changes that were done on Godaddy servers but in essence, the new version of openpublish (1.7.0) will not install normally on Godaddy.
The reason I say it may be due to changes was that I originally was able to install OP 1.6.* without making any changes to php.ini but an an attempt to upgrade to the new version led to some issues:
Do you get massive errors that say something about duplicate entry??
I just went to the content type section in the admin menu and I got this error this is only a part of the entire error. Is this because the database doesn't lock for long operations or something specific with theme system?
How do I delete a node reference in the article content type?
I was already using Node Reference with my article content type to reference images and a gallery type. Since you guys have included node references as a part of 1.7 (and did it better), I want to delete mine, but with this new interface, I don't know how?

OpenPublish 1.7 has been released and can now be downloaded from: http://bit.ly/getop
There are many changes (listed below in more detail) compared to OP 1.6. We spent a lot of time thoroughly testing and documenting 1.6 to 1.7 update instructions: http://openpublishapp.com/download/op-1dot6-1dot7-update-instructions so we hope the update will be relatively painless for existing OP users.

I'm trying to import a podcast using Feed API. I'm pretty sure I have all of the right modules activated. The Audio node type in Open Publish is using Emfield so it should receive audio from Feed API.
I created the FEED, input the URL, deselected "refresh feed on creation", select PROCESSORS and make the "node type of feed item:" = AUDIO.
When I attempt to MAP the parsed feed to my AUDIO node it shows me what it has found in the feed (including the mp3), but does not allow me to map to the audio emfield.
In the Description of Available Mappers, it only shows:

Robertson Adams who does the communications and the website for the Knight Foundation (http://knightfoundation.org/home/) hosted a Dupal meetup tonight at the Knight Foundation office in downtown Miami. There were about twelve people or so in attendance and I had great opportunity to give a very brief demonstration of OpenPublish and OP 1.7 (with the Admin 2 module installed) to the group.

Waiting with baited breath!
If not soon, just how different will it be from the pre-release version? Can the pre-release be updated simply by updating third party modules?

I've been playing with the Open Publish (OP) profile since 1.5, but have been working heavily with it since 1.6. In the middle of that version, 6.15 of core was released. I have never upgraded Drupal core before. I have read the tutorial on Drupal.org about upgrading ("HowTo: Updating Drupal 6.x to newer minor version"), but since my many months of work are tied up in this site, I want to make sure I don't destroy it all in a moment!
Read moreHow to utilize the modal frame API to improve user experience?
I think it's cool that OP1.7 is using the modal frame API to create popups that a user can input node reference information into.
I wish for all the other places on the website where users can create or edit content, such as comment edit, creating a classified, creating a node user profile, and creating a blog there is a popup window with the CCK form. I'm totally baffled by right now.
Does anybody have information how this works?
Read moreI'm Using Development Seed's Rubik and Admin Dev in OP1.7
I went ahead and uninstalled the current Admin module in the OpenPublish 1.7 distribution. I deleted it from the server. They have recent development releases of the Rubik theme that works with the Admin module 2.x. I deleted the admin module after I disabled it in the modules page. I put the Tao theme in the themes directory and the Rubik theme inside of the Tao themes folder. Then I upload the 2.x version of Admin module into the modules directory. Under adminstration themes I changed the default to Rubik and in the modules page enabled the Admin modules.
Read morePresentation/Demo of Open Publish
All,
Some of you may have already seen on Planet Drupal, but here is a presentation/demo of Open Publish that one of our Atlanta Drupal User Group members, Kent Lester (zoon_unit), did at our meetup last week. Kent shares his personal experiences and a few tips that some of you may find useful. Kent is a published author, and self-rates himself as "intermediate" when it comes to Drupal - he is developing a personal site/project on OP. Anyway, IMO he gives a really solid overview for newbies that are just getting started with Open Publish.

A suggestion for OP and shared servers
So far, the only way I've been able to install OP on a shared server is by
a) copying the OP files into the server
b) exporting a rather simple OP site database from a simple OP site I host elsewhere.
c) edit the databse to change all references to the new url
d) create a database and then import the edited database into it
e) change the settings to include the passwords/usernames/db_name
This will work at register.com, on a shared server hosting platform. But ONLY if the database you are importing is rather flimsy. Don't try to copy over the db for a crazy, really heavy site.

I can't seem to get past my problem with Node Reference URL and the Photo Gallery which I explained below and since I don't program I'm stuck.
As I mentioned before, I've attempted to get things working on a plain Drupal install and it worked fine, so I'm wondering if there is something with OP 1.6 that is keeping it from working and if there might be a work around? (please see my post below with screenshot).
I know that there are other photo gallery solutions, but from what I can tell this method is best suited for what I'm trying to do on my site.
Help!!! Thank you.
Read moreWhy doesn't OpenPublish come with the WYSIWYG module?
In OpenPublish 1.5 I removed the FCKmodule from the OpenPublish installation and installed the WYSIWYG module instead. I'm not sure why I did since it was long ago. I'm starting to use OpenPublish 1.7 now which is just amazing. I saw that it only has the FCKeditor module and not the WYSIWYG module.
Why does OpenPublish use that editor over all the others and is it worth considering the WYSIWYG module? My guess is that the FDKeditor module gives OpenPublish granular control over what type of configuration is given to certain roles with certain form ids.

For the life of me, I can't make the ads show up on my new OP site.
I was able to for my last site, but not this one. Anyone have any ideas? I checked permissions.
I am able to set up the ads, upload the images, etc. But they simply don't show.
The blocks appear to function, as they show up in context. They are selected in context, both in sidewide and frontpage.
But they don't show. Any ideas?

I've tried everything ... but for some reason, videos (from youtube) aren't showing up.
I thought it was an FCK issue (more trouble than it's worth at times).
But i've used regular embed code that works with normal html, and things still don't show.
Any ideas?
It works with video by the way. Just not inside "article."
Why is everything such a god damned fight? GRRRR.
Read moreCalais failed to recognize pronoun reference.
I completely understand how Calais overlooked the pronoun reference since the person was being referred to by his last name rather than full name. However, this is common in journalism and Calais is going to have to solve this problem before I implement it. Granted I'm very grateful to them for supporting Phase II in this project, OpenPublish -- I'm not sure if they are sponsoring the continued development. I hope they are because I can't afford too. Still the system needs to be mission critical at this point.

Read moreWould there be something in the OP 1.6 theme that would interfere with Node Reference URL from adding a link to a node?
I'm trying to create a photo gallery like the one Jeff Eaton created in his video "Photo galleries with Views Attach".
For some reason, the "add photo" link that is supposed to appear in the gallery node by using Node Reference URL is not showing up.
Is there something in the Open Publish theme that might be interfering with that? If not, any one have a clue what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you.
