Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313

Where can I change text for pager?
I've added various blocks to the front page of the OP site I'm building. Some of the blocks have the first, previous, next, and last links at the bottom so users can page through the lists (such as "popular content"): http://newspaper.polestarstudios.com
However, because of the widths I've set for the sidebars, the > and >> for the next > and last >> links may (depending on the browser being used) get separated from the words and wrap to the next line.

I've spent some time this weekend tweaking the CSS for my test intallation of OpenPublish; I've put up some sample articles to get a sense of how OP works: http://newspaper.polestarstudios.com/
But I've run into a problem: When I promote an article to the front page ... it doesn't appear on the front page. Any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
Read moreMaking progress with OpenPublish but have a few questions
Good day!
I am new to OpenPublish and Drupal but am making pretty good progress setting up my site and understanding all of the underpinnings. There are a few things though that have me stumped and I am hoping someone could help out:
1) The Taxonomy block that appears in the right sidebar of an article – How can I rename it to something that makes more sense to a layman (i.e. “Related stories” or the like)? If I configure the block and enter an alternate name in “Block Title” it still says “Taxonomy” when the the page / article / homepage is viewed.

Major headache that people are having with OP is when installing OP on shared hostings. While OP site clearly states that current OP version is not recommended for shared hostings, people still keep trying to install it on shared hosting so we will have to try do more in this regard, in the future.

I finally(!!!) got OpenPublish to install correctly on my shared hosting account. I can't guarantee that the steps I used will work for eveyone, but I'd be happy to share what I did, in case it helps out anyone else.
Side note: I'm also testing ProsePoint (since I'm researching CMS options for the newspaper I work for); it installed correctly on the first try!

A key element of our current html site is our photo archive brower.
We put thumbnails of all our photos up for customers to browse through, using a carousel-type script.
How can I accomplish this in Open Publish?
Uploading them one-by-one will not work.
Can I throw them all up using Filezilla? If so, how does the site recognize them?
Advice/ideas would be appreciated.
Read moreDoes any documentation for OpenPublish exist?? (beyond installation)
I'm really having a tough time working through all the intricacies of OpenPublish, and I've had a total fail on getting questions answered in this group. (still don't know how to edit a topic hub overview) Some good documentation would be EXTREMELY valuable in easing the learning process.
What's the prognosis for documentation???

I can't find a way to make these work.
Anyone else having problems?
I've put the files where documentation tells me to put them.
But I still get this:
The shared file for jQuery Flash plugin - JavaScript is missing.
OP drupal comes with two sets of most of the modules.
WHen I have to put the js files in a SWFtools/Shared
do i put that into the MODULES/SWFtools
Or sites/all/modules/swftools?
Read moreOpenPublish upgrades vs Drupal upgrades?
As I understand it OP is going to 2.0 in a relatively short time. This begs a question for me that I haven't seen answered.
There are two forms of upgrade that I potentially see. They are, OP itself, and the Drupal core. So:
- When the drupal core changes, do we wait for the next OP update, or do we go ahead and update with the new Drupal core? For example, right now I have a notice in the reports section that the 6.15 version of Drupal is ready and should be used. OP is I believe, version 6.14.
How to get french as default language as first install step?
As I plan to run a information service in french, I would ad the standard Drupal interface translation process as first install step in OP16...
Is there any simple way..?

Read moreFront Page tweaking
Hi folks,
first of all, sorry for my bad english. I'm pretty new to Drupal and to Openpublish, but I think they both are powerful tools.
Well, my problem is that I would like to tweak the front page of my openpublish site to have the "Homepage Featured Article" view to overlap the "Left Sidebar" and "On Top of Content" context regions. By default, in fact this view is in the "Left Sidebar" region. BTW, I attach an image of what I have now and an image of what I'm looking for ( more or less...:P ).

Semi-broken install
I began playing around with Drupal a month or so ago in an attempt to find a better CMS for the newspaper where I work part-time. Last week, I discovered OpenPublish ... and spent the better part of two days trying to find a way to get it installed on my shared hosting account. But I had the same timeout problems that many others have had. I tried the suggested processes of increasing the max time ... with no luck.
Read moreOne Last Try at a Godaddy Installation
Thanks to all who have tried to assist me in installing OP at Godaddy.
I still have not accomplished it.
I can install a regular drupal installation, manually.
But not OP.
So here's my new idea ...
I have successfully installed OP at Pinchhost. What if i just copy everything from there over to Godaddy by FTP?
Would that work?
Which files should I send over? Which should I not? Which should I change.
Also, I keep hearing about php.ini.
Where exactly do I find such a thing?
If I need to make it, where do I put it?
Lots of questions, I know.
Thanks
If I can't install Open Publish, which OP install files can I install to mimic it
I get all the modules. I see the theme.
But how about the contents?
I love the article content with the built in teaser for the front page.
I also like the relationships between pages.
How can I use all that, but only in drupal.
Is there a place in the file structure where I can find the files that define the contents?
