Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.

OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Some useful links:

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313

My Primary Links Menu has disappeared after upgrading to 1.7.1-412/417

I had this issue under the 1.7.1 Released discussion, but thought it better to bring it to its own discussion to reach a wider audience. As originally posted and the thread thereafter:

More Like This --- Need to shut it down in some places

I am using More Like This in OP 1.6.
I have used taxonomy and articles to create obituary content.

I want More Like This for Sports/News/Entertainment.

But NOT obituaries. How do I shut it off? Any ideas?

Subtheming with OpenPublish

Can someone provide sub-theme directions specific to OpenPublish? I'm getting nowhere trying to create a subtheme of the openpublish_theme. I keep getting this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function related_terms_links() in sites/all/modules/openpublish_core/theme_helpers/node-article.tpl.inc on line 54

I created a folder for my sub-theme, along with an .info file with the following contents:

name = "indy"
description = "subtheme of openpublish for independent online news sites."
core = 6.x
base theme = openpublish_theme
stylesheets[all][] = indy.css

Tao Styling

I've enabled Tao as a sub-theme of the default OP theme. However, when I view it, Tao brings up the default theme. How do I get Tao to use its own css settings, otherwise how do I edit the default theme via a subtheme?

Tao Theme Fatal Error: node-article.tpl

I hope this error report will help debug the Tao theme. I'm looking for a good base to build an OP theme. Anyway, here is the error I get after selecting the Tao theme and trying to view the front page:

Call to undefined function related_terms_links() in /sites/all/modules/openpublish_core/theme_helpers/node-article.tpl.inc on line 54

Has any body noticed the error with Gmap?

I haven't installed the latest release of OpenPublish. However, with a fresh 1.7 installation I noticed the Max Zoom attribute in the Gmap configuration page was set to 0 again. This was an issue in 1.5. http://drupal.org/node/585454

Help an OP Newbie with Menus

I just installed OP (I haven't upgraded to the latest version yet) and very much like what I see. I'm having trouble understanding how I get articles to appear in various menu items, however. For instance, how do I make an article appear in the "Business section," for instance? Do I set some tag that I cannot see? Thanks for the help and I want to repeat how pleased I am with OP.

How long should it take to FTP OpenPublish to webserver using Filezilla?

Just curious...

How long should it take to FTP OpenPublish to webserver using Filezilla?

I've been trying to get OP 1.7 up for 3 hours and the darn thing is still showing 2100 files in the queue.

My webhost keeps saying the problem on my end. I'm not too sure about that. They changed servers awhile back and this has become a problem. I can't point my finger and say for sure it is the server change, but I didn't have this kind of delays before.

Why no pagetitle module

Curious why not pagetitle module?

Page title is serious SEO tool. In fact, probably most important tool.

My OP site is down now, so I cannot run through site to check to see if the pagetitle is being created within some of the OP modules or something besides the pagetitle module.

I'm sure I shouldn't post this here but I'm hoping for feedback from the group.
Please have a look at the issue I have posted under flickr here:

I have no idea if the issue is specific to the OP install or flickr itself..

I receive this error when I add an author to an existing article

I am receiving an error when I attempt to add an author to an existing article. Please see the attachment.

Also, I see that this new method creates a new "Author" page. I appreciate the fact that this allows us to have authors that are not users and also the ability to have multiple authors is a plus, but the downside is that the author's profiles are not coming from the "user" profiles. Basically, I have to create author profiles twice (once for the user profile and once for the author profile).

Is there some way around this?

Date translation in openpublish

May be this question is not directly related to openpublish, but since I am considering to use OP for a non-english site, I am posting it here.

If I want to translate the date (months, numerals), do I need to hack the template files or there is any other way around. I know a little bit of php (through trial and error and by looking at existing php file). I tried to translate the months (Jan, Feb... etc) via translation module, but that does not translate the roman numerals.

Video tutorials on Context and Node Reference

Mustard Seed produced two very useful screen casts on Context and Node Reference. Since OP 1.7 is using them heavily you might consider watching them if your not yet familiar. They can be found at www.mustardseedmedia.com/podcast

EDIT: I would also like to add the Develop Seeds screencast on the Context module from a long, long time ago. It still informative and a great introduction with a great example the ability to assign body classes to different sections. http://www.screencast.com/users/yfhahn/folders/Jing/media/0ed3f6d1-acf0-...

1.7 question about premium content and Google

Congrats on the release of 1.7. Looking forward to messing around with it soon. Just curious if the Premium (e.g. subscriber-only) content feature allows nodes to be seen by Google? I'd love to have premium content, but I want Google to see it. Yes, I want to have my cake and eat it too!

Cheers,

Andrew
