Community discussions around Open Publish distribution.
OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of Drupal, that has been tailored to the needs of today's online publishers. OpenPublish is ideal for the implementation of a variety of media outlet's sites including: online magazines, newspapers, journals, trade publications, broadcast, wire service and membership publications. Built and supported on standard Drupal core (currently Drupal 6x), OpenPublish features support everything from basic news coverage needs to Web 2.0 trends, social publishing, semantic tagging and topic hubs. Each component bundled in the distribution is well supported, documented and modularly designed according to Drupal's architecture.

Important note: in order to fix consistency issues and critical bugs, in a timely manner, OpenPublish had to patch some third-party modules included in it. It's not recommended to independently update those. More information at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/60313
Need for a step-by-step guide for installation.
Is there a step-by-step installation process for OpenPublish?
I tried, unsuccessfully, for a week to install at Godaddy.
After reading the forums and the opensourceopenminds website FAQ, I purchased space at pinchhost, which reportedly said they "easily" installed it.
Once again, I am having no luck.
Also, the installation guide stream cast at opensourceopenminds skips over the part of the installation that is difficult.
I am looking for a simple, step-by-step guide, so that at least I might figure out where the problem is.

Good day,
For some reason, our user's blogs are NOT showing the node title or teasers content.

Flags not showing link on the node
I'm trying to implement the flags module with an event. Basically, turning the default "bookmark this" flag to an "attend this" flag. In the display options I have checked "Display link on node page"; I have chosen the node type "Event"; I have designated the "authenticated" user to be able to use this flag; and I have enabled the "javascript toggle".
For some reason, the link is not showing up on my event node.
Any clues?
Thank you,
Joe
Creating a custom Home Page
Hey Guys,
I am working on setting up a custom home page for my site via panels 3.2 and Views, but it's not appearing. Basically, the view displays the
Latest News
Latest Editorial
Most Views
Last Commented
etc...
I've checked the button for "set as Home Page", and set the Path to mysite.com/front (for some odd reason, it won't let me leave that field blank). I've enabled all of the settings within panels and views, and the page manager.
Will the panel not display if there isn't any content? Perhaps someone has a short tutorial that's up-to-date on this matter?
Thanks
Read moreImportant Suggestion
Hi!
After I´ve felt some troubleshooting in the installation, I have some suggestions to increase OP quality:
1- Have an automatic requirement scanner (to know automatically if the server have the correct requirements).
2- Give some instructions, for update the server´s software throw yum (ex: for updating for PHP 5.2. I´ve realized that is very easy to upload the PHP, but it was hard to find the sollution (by the way, here is it: http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=81843).
Finally, I´ve realized that if you upgrade to PHP 5.3, the Drupal (and OP), don´t work correctly.
Read moreBuilt in Content Types
Hello,
As I begin arranging my actual site, I'm working on editing Permissions to content fields via the Field Permissions Module. I need to access the "Body" field in the Article Content type, yet beside it there's no configure link. It's shown as a Node Module Form, could someone explain exactly what that is?
I suppose I could create my own content type, but I thought perhaps I'd roll with the template. Will not having said "Node Module Form" effect anything?
Thanks

Content "Archiving"
Hello All,
I am looking into Content Archiving....in essence, how is content displayed after it leaves the Home Page and the section of the website where it's "current". Basically, if I want a list of pages at the bottom (known as Paging?), how do I simply get the teasers going to that one section and the content just get's pushed down the list. Will the Read More be instantly created? Do I need to set up the page that will hold the full article?
I am considering making use of the Taxonomy Menu Module to organize my content, reccomendations?
Thanks

How do I update modules?
Hello
I was wondering how I update the modules included in the O.P package? I notice some of them (cck) don't even appear in the Modules folder; where are they?
Also, will it mess with configurations if we just delete the mod and re-install it?
Thanks

Bump: Distro and OpenPublish strategy
I'm sort of surprised that not one person responded or commented on my previous post from last week about Distro and Openpublish's upgrade strategy.
http://groups.drupal.org/node/39436
Am I the only one interested in how to upgrade OpenPublish over time?? I'm seriously considering basing an entire blog and news site on OpenPublish. It seems that long term support would be a critical issue here.......
Confused....

Hi!
After I´ve started using OP (but untill now, it was allmost only throw the installation...), I felt that there´s something essencial, for me, to implement in OP:
- It will be great, if before the installation process, the software scan and confirm automatically if all the server's requirement are avaliable for the installation (ex: if the version of PHP is compatible, SQL, even the memory and time cache). I believe that this feature will increase the OP's quality and funcionality).
Best regards,
Martino

Warning: array_map() [function.array-map]: The first argument, 'utf8_encode', should be either NULL or a valid callback in /usr/local/www/apache22/data/includes/unicode.inc on line 338
Reinstalling OP delivers this message at first db config screen
Looking at code, 'utf8_encode' is hard-coded, which seems strange.
This is a subsequent install attempt, without any user-added sites. Previous attempt (using OP1.5 - derved theme), did not produce warning message. I scrapped it because of problems with using 'contexts'. Existing tables and code were deleted for this attempt.

Hi!
After trying the installation of OpenPublish for 8 times, I think that now I´ve reached to the end with sucess.

Here are the errors:

Read moreExamples of how to use Resources, Packages and flags
I'm trying to wrap my mind around the best use of the Resources and Packages content type as well as the flags feature. I've read the descriptions both provided in the install and elsewhere (for flags), but I'm having a difficult time trying to visualize the most effective use.
If anyone has used these features, or intends to, can you share some ideas of what you are doing with them?
I'm especially curious about the use of flags. It sounds like it has a myriad of different uses, but in what practical ways would it be useful for a news site?
Thank you very much,
Joe

I wish to post an article and ensure that it is viewable on the home page. Have tried all sorts of settings, but obviously not the correct ones. What is the proper method?

Module Tutorial Suggestions/Future Releases
Hey There!
I thought I'd drop a few suggestions for some of the documentation you're working on.... :)
1.-Module Listing with Purpose: List the modules used and give a brief paragraph on why it's been included, and it's purpose.
2.-How to take advantage of the simple things: Give tutorials on how to make the most out of functions such as RSS.
3.-Solr Apache Search starter tutorial
I think you should add a few modules into your profile instillation
1.The Simplenews Module, or similar module; many newspaper websites send out emails regularly
Context and related
I've noticed that the Author Information is not showing at the bottom of "blog" and "article" content. In OP1.5 it showed. When I looked at the Contexts, I found that Author Information is not there.
Then I tried to add it, but didn't show up on the node. I tested by adding "Who's Online" block at the end of a blog/article, and it works.
Any clue as to why Author Information is not being added? How do I add that? Thanks in advance.

I was starting to learn Openpublish 1.5 and heard that waiting for 1.6 for big changes was probably a good idea, due to the inclusion of the Distro module. So I postponed development for awhile so I could start fresh with 1.6.
Can you guys explain the upgrade process in greater detail?

I am fairly new to Drupal as well, and have experienced my share of problems, as evidenced by my posts in these groups, but now that I've been playing with it for a few days, I really like it!
Some of the little things have been fixed, for example, photos now show captions and photo credits -- thanks irakli :) and the search label finally aligns properly with the box.
