Set and Forget: Automatic off-site Drupal backups with the Backup Migrate module and Amazon S3

We all know we should be backing up every site we build on a regular basis, but it's so much effort that we frequently don't, especially the small sites. Fortunately, there's a very easy solution to this problem, and it's dirt cheap to boot.

Below is what will be provided in the Drupal Web Application Development Workshop in September at the University of Arizona.

Topics covered:
• Review of different types of servers: dedicated vs shared and which to select based on site requirements;
• Install the Drush utility tool and install Drupal using Drush
• Configure an adaptive theme
• Configure user settings, roles, permissions; protect against spambots and spot a spammer
• Add tools to enhance your user’s experience
• Learn how to find, select, upload and maintain contributed modules

Jeff Beeman from Acquia will talk about the Drupal-to-Drupal Migration toolset (http://drupal.org/project/migrate_d2d), showing a real-world Drupal 5 to Drupal 7 migration project. Through code samples, you'll see how the toolset dramatically accelerates migrations from one version of Drupal to another. Also get a sneak-peak at the Drupal-to-Drupal Migration UI that simplifies the wiring up of source to destination data.

Drupal Intensive and Module Building:
(Monday through Wednesday): Walk through the process of setting up a Drupal site
and discuss its parts, features, modules, concepts, and how they all work
together. Learn best practices for creating an efficient, well-tuned site
that's future-proof, speedy, and robust. CCK, Views and Drupal's Module System
will also be reviewed. This workshop is designed for internet-savvy individuals
with some technical skills who aren't too scared of a little HTML and FTPing.

This month's Phoenix meetup is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21st at 7pm. We'll be meeting on the ASU Tempe campus in the Moeur Building (map). There is parking available in Lot 3 (at Gammage Auditorium) as well as in Lot 16 (off of Mill).
