New Features and a New Look for Drupal NYC
I've taken advantage of the new Panels integration with Groups, http://groups.drupal.org/node/10445, to create what I hope will be a more useful site for the NYC Drupal community. The site now has the a welcome panel and a featured post in the top row. The next two rows list the latest Discussions, Polls, Events, and Wiki posts. Finally, the good old river of news lists all posts to the site in chronological order.

I'm working on my little app here.. have figured out login, upload avatar.. and so on.. http://metroklub.sk/drulog/bin-release/DrupalLoginApp.html <-- don't know how long it will hang there.. anyway I would like my users to create their own group and let others to join in if they are approved.. nothing really complicated [i guess] but now I don't know which direction to take.. should I role out my own piece of php code with included bootstrap.. or install an organic groups module and try to make a service for it?.. [I don't think I'm skilled enough to write my own services]..

I submitted this within the forums, but I don't think it will get the attention it desires... I think this is an important step in development in Drupals Social Networking... Take a look and see if it is something that will draw the attention and the enthusiasm that it deserves. If it is deemed usable, then I will start working on an API.
Read moreNew Podcast Series on Online Church Community
Hey Everyone...
Just wanted to point out the latest series over at the Geeks & God Podcast. We're currently in the middle of a series called "forming online community" in which we're talking about building a internet based, interactive community for your church or ministry. Currently, we've got 4 episodes online with 2 episodes to go, which will release in the next 2 weeks (yielding a 6 part series)...
Of course, we talk about Organic Groups but we also cover a much wider spectrum of what it means to create an online community.
Check the series out (in reverse chronological order) at: http://geeksandgod.com/podcast-series/forming-online-community
Hope this helps some folks think about creating online community at their church!
Read moreRequest for comments -- Setting OG group defaults on a group type by group type basis
Currently, within OG, all the group settings are set sitewide for all types of group nodes. We are looking to implement group type by group type default permissions to allow for different types of groups within the same site --
We will be working out a solution to this issue and releasing the code back as a contrib module -- however, before we start coding we want to get some feedback/see if anyone else was thinking along similar lines.
The issue is here: http://drupal.org/node/192933 -- please centralize any discussion on the issue queue.
Cheers,
Bill
Read moreComplex queries and views
The use case: I have Organic Groups which are associated with a vocabulary, and I want to list various content types associated with organic groups that are associated with a taxonomy term.
I ask the question here because it could be the entrance for some people (like myself) to actual views development.

This is my first-ever drupal site. I started by trying to duplicate an ASB VBScript site that a long-lost developer did for me. When the old site's database corrupted a few weeks ago, it naturally accelerated my development of the drupal site. I pulled everything together and posted the beta as quickly as I could.

Relative data structures
To begin with, the main idea here is:
- All users have a singular userprofile nodeprofile node, that holds their profile information.
- All artists have a singular artistprofile nodeprofile node that simultaneously is an organic group node. This gives the ability to each artist to hold subscribers. More about that later!
- Each music band is also an organic group node holding subscribers.
Was groups.drupal.org built with organic groups?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Excuse me if it isn't.
Was groups.drupal.org built with organic groups? I believe I heard that groups.drupal.org built with organic groups in a podcast (maybe Lullabot?) in passing. The podcasters were very nonchalant about it like building groups.drupal.org was no big deal.
