Tidying up marketing group home page & sifting through DrupalCon Munich recordings
Today I've mostly been tidying up the marketing group home page, highlighting four topics we are currently canvassing for views on:
- What is it that Drupal does so well?
- Who are our "mindset" competitors that we need to overcome?
- Who are Drupal's competitors and what do they do particularly well?
- Who is Drupal's target group? What are their demographics? Psychographics?
Who is Drupal's target group? What are their demographics? Psychographics?
NOTES: This is a step in a planned Branding exercise that is outlined here:
Brand Strategy Purpose and Workflow
We are basing this entire thread on this simple idea: The purpose of undertaking the branding of Drupal is to accelerate the adoption of Drupal.
Which begs the question: Adoption by who?

After tidying up the DrupalBAM ('Drupal Branding And Marketing') group homepage and structure last night I saw the conversation had started to flow so today, after getting my own personal chores and meetings out of the way, I caught up on the conversation.

The aim of the Branding & Marketing group is to bring together the efforts of people from around the world who have been to various marketing BoFs, meetings, etc. and want to be as involved in the work they do with regards for Drupal as the people who write code by using the system that's been built up over the last twelfty years.

I created this second camp as I want to align our camp with the yearly Brighton Digital Festival (http://2012.brightondigitalfestival.co.uk/) so that it raises the profile within the digital community at large and not just the Drupalers.

Not everyone can afford to visit a DrupalCon, some can't see, speak or hear. Everyone has differing needs, and marketing is the role of bringing these two parties together in successful collaboration.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of marketing people in our community but they currently have a tough job finding out how they can help out.

Yes, I am going to purposely make a silly acronym for everything :D
As with Drupal itself, there is never one answer for what type of events we need for Drupal. Then there's timing - some people can't make Mondays, some can't make evenings, etc. I'm a great believer in what one of the Drupal London guys said in Munich about having more, smaller events. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have the big ones too, but we can achieve more being small pieces loosely joined.
