Drupal and Photography: Managing and presenting Images and Galleries with access controls

I'm preparing to build a site for organizing, managing, tracking, presenting, selecting, and delivering digital images.
It would be used as both a showcase and a product delivery tool. It would most likely be "fed" from Lightroom using a custom export.

Migrating between stacks : Acquia from/to XAMPP

I'm working with two stacks - Acquia on my desktop and XAMPP on my laptop. (And I'll be using LAMP at Modwest, my hosting service.)

My understanding is I should be able to move a completed SITE back and forth between these, but it is my responsibility to make sure the needed MODULES are in place across all of the installations. Is this correct?

Lullabot donates Drupal learning videos – borrow one!

Only local images are allowed. Our friends at Lullabot have recently given our group some wonderful support. They've provided us with their entire set of Learning Series DVDs, over 22 hours of top-notch Drupal training from the most experienced Drupal trainers around. The DVD topics are:

I've established a lending library of these videos, so if you want to borrow any of them just contact me and we'll arrange it. I'll bring any unlent videos to each group meeting, so that's a good time to pick them up.

Lullabot.com is full of great resources for Drupal site builders and developers – be sure to check out their awesome podcast and many helpful articles and blog posts. Their in-person trainings are also excellent (some of us in the group have attended them).

Lullabot also provided us with a healthy supply of temporary tattoos which are just the right accessory for your night out on the town or a quiet evening at home. Just ask and we'll hook you up!

So a hearty Big Sky thank you to Lullabot!

2010-05-20 16:00 - 18:30 America/Denver
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Only local images are allowed.
On Thursday May 20th we continue our monthly 'Getting Started with Drupal Series'. We'll drill further down into the nuts and bolts of building a site with Drupal, focusing on creating navigation menus, customizing and controlling placement of blocks on your pages, and SEO-friendly URLs.

What we'll cover in this meetup

— The menu system: how it works, creating multiple menus, linking menu items to pages
— The block system: understanding dynamic and custom blocks, how to place them in your page layout, how to control which pages they appear on
— The path system: manually create custom page URLs, use the 'pathauto' module to automatically generate SEO-friendly URLs for your content

This is a hands-on class, so bring your laptop and follow along! (You can still benefit even without one, though.)

Don't worry if you don't have Drupal installed, we have test installations for you to use, or you can sign up for a free account at http://www.webenabled.com and quickly deploy a new Drupal site.

If you have any specific beginner questions you'd like to have addressed, please add them to the comments for this event and we'll try to work them in.

If you know anyone who'd like to get started with Drupal, please send them the link to this page!

To best prepare for the Getting Started series, we recommend the book Using Drupal published by O'Reilly. If you are at all serious about learning Drupal, please just go ahead and purchase this excellent book. Monte, Art, and AJ are just three of our group members who are happy they did! Well-written and aimed at the Drupal beginner, it takes you though the sometimes-daunting Drupal jargon and concepts with ease, and gets you comfortable with managing content and building sites step-by-step. (Although highly recommended, the reading is not required to attend the session – everyone is welcome!)

About the Getting Started Series
Each month an experienced Drupaler will present a lesson suitable for Drupal beginners. We'll structure the series so each month builds on the next – if you attend each monthly Getting Started series, your Drupal skills will grow naturally and within a few months you'll be competently managing your site and your content, and on your way to adding new site sections and features.

Drupal 7 Migration

Hey all,

I started working on a Drupal 6 site a bit ago and have the install done, with a theme selected and installed, and am considering migrating to Drupal 7 before I delve farther into developing the site. The only module I have installed other than core is SWF Tools.

http://www.gullski.com

Has anyone heard of Drupal 7 migrations going smoothly to this point? Even if modules and themes are not 7 specific, have they been unstable on 7? Will they even work?
