Drupal Comes to Dallas -DrupalCamp set to Run in Dallas August 1-2, 2009
Drupal fever is hitting Dallas. Over the weekend of August 1st-2nd, Drupalers from all over the state of Texas will congregate at Improving Enterprises in Dallas to learn, share, and discuss all things Drupal. Organized by a group of Dallas area Drupal enthusiasts, DrupalCamp Dallas will feature two full days of sessions. Sessions will cover everything from structured presentations from local and national Drupal experts, to unstructured "Birds of a Feather" sessions, where people with similar interests form small groups to learn and collaborate.

Estimados hermanas y hermanos hispano parlantes,
- Convocatorias a reuniones locales
- Consultas sobre Drupal
- Proyectos que convocan a toda la comunidad hispana

Read morePrecedence of Audience in posts
I hope this post brings to the forefront a gripe I have about breadcrumbs and the precedence of the "Audience" selection on discussions in groups.drupal.org
When an event is posted to our group for our monthly meetup, we usually post it to the groups in adjacent cities/states.
The issue: the breadcrumbs and email subjects for notifications take on the first "audience" in the list - so our events/posts appear as though they are within the "Central Ohio" group instead of Cincinnati/SW Ohio group, since Central Ohio comes first alphabetically.

We had a great meetup last night, and although it may have felt a bit like a "trustee meeting" to quote Willem, it's a necessary evil to spend time on figuring this stuff out. After the discussion we had 2 cool showcases from George and Greg - thanks for the effort you guys put into it. What follows is a listing of the group goals, portfolios we identified and who's going to be coordinating/running each portfolio, as well as some specific tasks.

I've been organizing the Johannesburg Drupal user group meetups and came across this excellent posting which touches on group leadership, saying "First, do not try to do it alone".

World Drupal Day?
Hi Local Organizers,
Is there any official World Drupal Day like World Plone Day? A bunch of us North Carolina organizers have been discussing joint activities and it would be neat to have some of them on World Drupal Day.
It seems like the mission of World Plone Day could easily be applied to a World Drupal Day:
No matter where you are, meet
PloneDrupal and discover the benefits of using it in education, government, non-profits, and business.

We had a great turn out for our 1st ever ChatUp. We discussed many different ways to improve our groups. We also spent a great deal of time discussing how the GDO site could improve to serve local groups better. It appeared to be unanimous that we all believe that GDO should be the primary focus for group activity. We hope that GDO on D6 will be a step forward for those of us who continue to use it heavily in promoting local groups.
If you missed the meeting, feel free to reply to this post and comment on the transcript.
The transcript is attached.

We're in the middle of our 1st ChatUp in #drupal-groups as announced on http://groups.drupal.org/local-user-group-organizers
One thing that has come up is the need for very effective communication tools that are particularly useful to local groups.
To that end I am asking:
What is the D6 GDO outlook regarding this topic
What do the group leaders believe us essential to any communication tool?
Many people have a meetup.com account and/or use a personal website for the group where better communication tools exist.
New static pages for GDO on D6
Per Moshe in post http://groups.drupal.org/node/20725#comment-75055 "I think some static FAQ pages and such are perfectly reasonable and much needed. I don't think anyone is married to the current homepage for that matter. Please do forge ahead."
And with that the topic is raised.
What benefit can we gain from having front-page links to static content on GDO? Currently all we have is a "about this site" link at the bottom of every page. Beyond that, all pages are reached only if you enter through a group or a search result.

Our users group, http://groups.drupal.org/twin-cities, had our monthly meeting last night. A good group of about 12 people attended what amounted to being an experiment for our gathering. Normally we have a relatively formal presentation-- either a demo, case-study, sometimes even slides are involved. This month we decided to try something different.

While currently the majority of Drupal people speak English as a native or second language, I think it would artificially limit the scope of the LUGO group to require it. I deliberately did not choose a language when I created this group because there was not an 'all' option. The audience and membership of this group is intended to be anyone, anywhere, who organizes a local Drupal User Group currently, or wants to start one. If we are going to encourage that second group to become part of the first, we will need to accommodate people that do not speak English at all.
