Proposed Meetup Outline

This is just a proposal - if there's something else you'd like to add or discuss instead, please add it to the discussion! We're looking for someone to run the beginners/intermediate session, so if you have experience of setting up TinyMCE or know anything about Kupu, or if you're familiar with the debate and pros and cons of different approaches, then please offer to help out!

  • Introduction, refreshments, etc.
  • Drupal Showcases - have you been working on an interesting site recently? Spend three minutes showcasing your work. If you're interested in doing this add a comment below
  • Overview of acquia's Carbon (more on this below)
  • Breakout into two groups
    • Beginners/Intermediate - introduction to one of the modules being proposed for inclusion in Carbon - perhaps WYSIWYG editors?
    • Advanced Discussion

Acquia is the Drupal shop set up by Dries, the original creator of Drupal. They've proposed 'Carbon':

Carbon is the code name for our commercially supported distribution of Drupal 6. Carbon will consist of Drupal 6 core plus a group of popular contributed modules. The focus of this distribution will be on social publishing applications - enabling customers to quickly build interactive, community-based publishing sites that include a combination of editorial and user-generated content.

Full Names

litwol's picture

All attendees need to fill out their groups.drupal.org profiles and most important to fill out their first and last names.

I will use that information to give the attendance list to our building security, so if you did not fill out your first and last names you will not be admitted.

I am a CEO and incapable of intuiting such simple instructions. If only you had told me to click on My Account > Edit >> Personal, then fill out my Real Name, I would have been able to have had dinner with my precious trust fund daughter tonight.

Real name: Irfan Baig

New to Drupal

coolgates's picture

I'm a web designer and am looking to move our school's site to Drupal (I've worked with Wordpress a lot and Drupal seems to have a higher learning curve). I'd love to hear from people about using CCK and the best ways to go about organizing a site. Also, I'm curious if anyone can give any insights to the status of Drupal 6.x and CCK/Views. Thanks, Drew

Coming!

I'll be there! I'd be willing to do a simple session on web services and Drupal if you're missing a presentation.

Oleg, I'll also be bringing the girlfriend, "Samanatha Tan". She doesn't have a groups.drupal.org profile, but I could set her up with one so that she appears in the attendees list...

Thanks Rob. I look forward to hearing about this. FYI for those that don't know. I believe the web services being talked about here is a combination of the services module and the clients module, which provides a standardized solution of integrating external applications with Drupal.

Services project page: http://drupal.org/project/services
Clients project page: http://drupal.org/project/clients

I don't know much about these modules. At first I thought you might be referring to running Drupal on Amazon's Web Services (S3/EC2). That would be a cool talk as well.

I am very interested in a web service - Drupal session

another vote for web services and Drupal (and Flex)

I also am very interested in web services and Drupal.

I have been working on integrating web services with Flex in Drupal. I could also give an overview of Flex, if people are interested.

I'd like to learn more about d6 theming

marketanomaly's picture

I'd like to hear from anyone doing cool things with d6 theming. As everyone knows, creating custom themes for Drupal can be a bit of a beast. An entirely new job role "Themer" has been created to deal with the complexity of Drupal theming. Personally, I think this aspect of Drupal scares many people away. D6 claims to address this problem, however, I have not seen many real sites taking advantage of d6 goodness. Anyone willing to talk about d6 theming or just d6 in general?

Me, too!

I'd be interested in this as well, and theming in general (I know there was a seeeion on it a while back though) and also I'd like to find out more about the status of the major contrib modules for D6.

Modifying Drupal NYC

marketanomaly's picture

Given the recent announcement http://groups.drupal.org/node/10445, it would make sense to get members input on the functionality of the NYC site. Maybe we can do some live editing to make the site serve us better. Until now, we've had very little control over anything.
