User group meeting
Yea! We have a location!
JesseJames Creative has opened up their space for the Playday!
They are located at: 207 West 25th Street, Suite 4A in Manhattan
Google Map : http://maps.google.com/maps?q=207+West+25th+Street+Suite+&ie=UTF8&hq=&hn...
Here are some changes based upon peoples response/ wishes and suggestions:
- Playdays will move around NYC
- Playdays will sometimes take place on either sat or sun -> I wanted to keep it sat or sun, but there are alot of conflicts
- Playdays will be in the afternoon :)
- We have a Beverage Budget! Drupal Connect is sponsoring all PlayDays! Whoo Hoo!
- I will be offering free training, help and advice during the playdays! Alot of people asked me to help out and, to be honest, now that I get to play ALOT more at my current gig - I can offer time to give back to everyone in terms of clearing roadblocks! Soooo, I will prepare and post a "lecture" for each Playday and then help out people in ways that I can.
So, there it is - looking forward to Feb 19th!

Enthusiasm and a venue suggestion
Awesome all around. I hope to be able to attend!
As for a venue... do you think Outpost Lounge would be big enough?

Have to work
Hey, glad to see these return and thanks to Drupal Connect! Unfortunately I have to work at my "day job" that Saturday...
Drupaling in NYC since 2009!
Glad that they are in the afternoons again...
The 10am at the Macon library was a little early for me.
I hope to be deep into theming a site using Drupal 7 and testing the HTML5_base theme by then. Will be happy to discuss any theming or migration issues I have faced. Current site is in Mambo 4.5 (Joomla! 1.0).
im new to this but ill Drupal

Same here. Brand new - but looking forward to playday.
I'm a noob as well
But I'm really trying to get into it. Anybody else in the same boat and want to learn together?
moved into this awesome coworking environment in the flatiron, i'm sure we could use a room :)
learn together
definitely ive been watching videos and reading books
ive learned alot but not enough.
the more the merrier.
You are in good company!
I'm learning too and I have met lots of other cool peeps at the meetups etc that are in the same boat... See you at the play date and we can pull our hair out and pester the gurus together!
sounds great
yes the gurus are DEFINITELY great help. The entire Drupal community is great but the NYC gurus OUTSTANDING HELP. thank you gurus......
Oh boy....
what did i get myself into ;)
fureigh I will look into that place ->
What I look for is a large area that give us relative quiet -> i don't like competing with either expresso machines or bad college emotional rock (where ever could i be talking about ????)
If they have smoothies -> that's a plus!
Outpost doesn't have
Outpost doesn't have smoothies. They do have espresso machines and recorded music, neither of which I've found distracting, but I've never tried to work with a large group there.
We could ask Alpha One Labs — it's definitely large and quiet. Or, cbuquid, what would it take to use a room at the coworking space you mentioned?

some details
Question: how many people come, is there a url for this drupal playday, what are the hours?
I just moved into my desk a few days ago. They might be all for it but it'd be best to get all the details first. The place is pretty awesome though. Since I have a dedicated desk space there may be no cost
email me: cbuquid@gmail.com
What is the skinny on the space ...
I would like to lock down a location as soon as possible - to give people time to plan.
Please, lemme know :)
Space for 19th
Hey John, call me if you want to talk space. 917-921-3648. Thanks. Jim
Space if you still need it
Hey John,
If you still need a venue for the 19th, I can volunteer my office on West 25th Street and 7th Ave.
We have plenty of room (Big conference room and mostly open plan space), a good coffee machine and a Jamba juice downstairs.
Let me know if you want to hear more. jtormey@jjcreative.com

Looking forward...

The time has changed from 11am to 3pm (maybe 4pm) so plan accordingly!
Thank you JJC!
Thanks to JesseJames Creative and to John and Jim for the organization! Weee! Looking forward to it! I've been a Zen person for a long time and have recently moved to Fusion (I know, I'm late to the party), still figuring stuff out. Though I do more dev work than themeing in general, so I need to work on my chops. I'm really looking forward to meeting all you Fusion gurus out there!
I do get the impression our Playdays have moved from being "Theme"-based to general development - which is awesome! But I wanted to ask and see if that's truly the case? When I tell folks about the Playdays I want to be as accurate as I can about our intended audience and focus.
Cheers,

Playdays are Everyone Days
Originally, Themers Playdays were a response to Hack-a-thon that would sometimes take place. But over last year, alot of devs showed up and hacked away at their projects.
So, Playdays are for everyone. I will focus on theming (oooh, "Rapture" on iTunes, I love this song) because that is my native Drupal Tongue. I know alot of n00bs will show up -> and that is A-OK. Everyone is invited to the party ... especially if we have good tunes a playin ...
Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's high, DJ's spinnin' are savin' my mind, Flash is fast, Flash is cool, Francois sez fas, Flashe' no do!

Tweets, FB posts, Skype?
Anybody care to post live tweets, FB posts or Skype posts during the Playday?
I suspect that we observers-from-a-distance could benefit from any questions, suggestions or solutions posted.
Have fun all. I still remember how everyone enjoyed the Themers Playday in Rutherford, NJ last year.
I suspect that GMap is going to be a popular topic today.

The best "101" I've found
I just did all those labs yesterday, that's absotively the best intro for a total noob I've found. There are tons of other intros for people who already use other systems/are brainiacs, but I needed to have my tutorial sans crusts.
Adding some color coding was also nice.. I grabbed some bits from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/267761/what-does-your-gitconfig-contain
Thanks for posting this. I
Thanks for posting this. I was asking someone about GIT at the Webchick Tour and they mentioned you had some great links about GIT... looking forward to it.
