theresaanna and I were recently discussing the idea that it would be cool to have some kind of Drupal coworking day. The specifics and format are certainly up for discussion, but the basic idea is that it would be somewhat akin to the recent Drupal NYC Hackathon but take place during the workday.
A lot of us here have more or less full time jobs developing Drupal. We love it, but sometimes 40 hours a week is about your mental limit for thinking about it! This would allow people who work for themselves, who can be flexible with work schedule/location or whose employers are well-disposed to allowing this sort of thing to participate without having to knock out a precious weekend day or evening (not to demean those events -- they're great too!)
As for the agenda, we're open to any ideas. It could be as structured as a weekend Hackathon or code sprint, or it could be just a day to get together and work in the same room, swap ideas, get some lunch, chat, and work (on your pet project or your "real" job, depending on your employer's policies).
What do folks think?

I think that is a great idea. NYC meetups happen on wednesdays as well as socials 2 weeks after purely for historical reasons and because "some one just did it".
I urge you to set up your event as i am certain some people will be very interested. Your audience may be different from what we get on socials, meetups and hackathons but i still think its worth it.
Please do it :)

which Wednesdays?
Are the meetups and socials on specific Wednesdays every month, like the second or third Wed of the month? If I could put them on my cal as recurring events I'd have a better shot at avoiding conflicts.

*Possible* space lead...
My boyfriend occasionally goes down to the New Work City coworking space, I think in SoHo, and is friends with the maintainers. If folks are interested, he can probably talk to them and see if there is any available space.
I'm, of course, all for this!
I've learned that there is
I've learned that there is probably more of a fee than I thought associated with this so other options would be good.
Depends on how many people
Depends on how many people are interested in this i may be able to get office reserved one day a month for workday hackathon at the usual mettup place (WTC7 @ mansueto ventures). I will try but no guarantees.

That would be fantastic if it worked out. What size group do you think we would need for this to be a possibility?

This would be great. I'm a full time Drupal site builder -- from dev to theming. I work from a home office and could stand to learn about modules, approaches, recipes, etc through osmosis.
I'd come
I'd like to join as well, depends on the date but almost anything should work.

I'm interested, too.
A Brooklyn location would be especially fantastic. I don't currently know of any sizable no-fee options, though.

Morning Meetings
I am interested as well. Pretty much any morning would work for me.
I'm interested
I'd like to do this and during the day is best for me since I work from home (after public school starts).

Might have a suggestion for a space
If folks don't mind the trek to queens, I'm sure I could get Surf Astoria to host it. (http://seanreiser.com/content/coworking-astoria-queens). It's a good space, free wifi (with a food or beverage purchase). Could probably hold around 20 folks with the available tables and chairs and not effect the PCs that they rent. I have some connections with the owners / managers and am sure they wouldn't mind a group of coders eating their pastries and drinking their coffee. The place is located at the Ditmars stop on the N or W right next to the McDonalds. It's become my home away from home for coding.
Considering its only one day
Considering its only one day a month, I personally wouldn't mind coming out to Astoria. My only concern is people who would like to convince their employers that this coworking day applies to their jobs in order to attend. Does anyone think that might be a problem?
I'm interested and the Surf
I'm interested and the Surf Astoria location would be great for me. It looks like a decent number of people are interested. Maybe we could setup 2 or 3 of these in different locations around the city to keep people's commute time down. - Brad

the more interactions the better
I believe the more we collaborate person to person and show off ours ideas as presentations will help us brainstorm and learn more from each other. I would definitely be interested in more frequent social meet ups to share ideas, learn about new ideas, and collaborate or contribute to someone else's idea. Ok I am drunk now so don't mind all the love coming out of my words, and no! litwol I might be drunken now but I'm making sure I don't miss spell because my drunk vocabulary is s alittle hard to udnerstadn from certainw epeople unsldfsess thesy drunsf;sda s i am.
Looking forward to more social events.
