Date of Meetup

holingpoon's picture

Didn't mean to be a prick, but in the paragraphs under "When?" it says the meetup date is January 14th. Any chance you can change it so there's no confusion on time and date? Thanks.

CiviCRM Talk

tonymazz's picture

I'll speak on the "State of CiviCRM and what's next".

Lightning talk on the Drupal Console

esod's picture

The Drupal Console is a scaffolding generator which brings the Symfony Console Component to Drupal 8. I'd like to demonstrate how to set up the Console and how use it to a generate a module (and more, if time and my knowledge permits).

I think a lightning talk will be enough for now although there are so many exciting things happening with the Console, we may want to come back for a longer talk at another meetup.

Awesome

Awesome!

Here's the Drupal Console main site for anyone who wants to take a look before Wednesday.

Looking forward to this :)

Missed you!

Missed you!

Let's go with a full presentation

esod's picture

There's more than enough material for a full presentation and I am growing more confident as I write new commands. I think 20 minutes is a better amount of time to talk about the Console, as long as scheduling permits.

Thanks

In the right section this time, too!

Ironic

forestmars's picture

Ironic that you double posted this comment, given that one of the points @hedinfaok made was having to prove to seemingly obdurant Drupal-aid drinkers that no, Drupal form submit isn't idempotent.

Hoping he'll post his slides here and assuming the video came out well, it will be up shortly on Drupal TV.

The demos are on YouTube ...

We're posting the slides and I'll reply back with the link.

In the meantime, if you wish to install Console with curl (that's the fastest way), at the command line paste in:

$ curl -LSs http://drupalconsole.com/installer | php

The curl-ed file is titled console.phar. It's not a file actually. It's a collection of files. But no need to worry about that.

You can then move and rename the downloaded console.phar with:

$ mv console.phar /usr/local/bin/drupal

Moving the console.phar to /usr/local/bin permits you to use the Console from anywhere on your computer by typing the word drupal. Of course, you will want to be in a drupal 8 root directory too, but the Console will provide you with that message.

I mention this because that is one change from my screen casts. Instead of, for instance,

$ console.dev generate:module

You would type:

$ drupal generate:module

Of course, when you move and rename console.phar to drupal, you can rename it anything you prefer.

Note that you may need to adjust your php.ini file and set phar.readonly to off. The curl will tell you if you need to make this change. You most likely will, after which run the curl command again.

whoops. wrong section.

esod's picture

whoops. wrong section. Apologies

would like to hear someone explain the Workflow module

mattstein's picture

I'm lost in the weeds of data-selection options and whether I should ditch the workflow module in favor of the Workbench module.

Features Deployment

frankcarey's picture

I'd like to talk about some tips on using features for deployment, including https://www.drupal.org/project/features_banish

And +++ for keep this the FIRST wednesday of the month

Yay 1st Wednesday...please!

moranimation's picture

Didn't know 'non-1st-Wednesday' was a bone of contention... but here's my vote.

This looks like a lot of great discussions/presentations... the only thing that worries me
is esod "...growing more confident..." ;-)

Meeting is "always" 1st Wednesday

forestmars's picture

It's not anything we're discussing, there were just a couple conflicts recently, notably Drupalcon, and New Year's. (1st Wednesday was 1/1.)

Going forward it's "always" on the 1st Wednesday.

First Wed.

scottwolpow's picture

How about the first Wed. of the month, provided that it follows a Monday in that month, unless it has less than 28 days, then it will be the first Wed. regardless.
This hopes for complete confusion, especially during leap years. :)

PROTIP

forestmars's picture

PROTIP: Your time would be better spent actually working on date handling in Drupal.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.
