I'd really like to see DrupalCon come to NYC. I think it makes a lot of sense especially for presenters and others traveling from Europe. As much as I love NYCCamp, I'd really love to see a full DrupalCon here. What would it take to pull off and how do we start? BTW, I've got a friend with a travel business (see http://yeegotravel.com - Drupal 7 on Pantheon!) who can get good deals on room blocks, event spaces and the like. I'd love to know what I can do to bring DrupalCon back to the east coast. :-)

DrupalCon in NYC? How do we make it happen?
seanr,
I'd love to see DrupalCon in NYC! There are some real heavy-hitters based in NYC (like NBCUniversal) who are using Drupal.
To start, I think we should bring this topic up at the next monthly Drupal meetup and during the NYC Drupal Camp in July. Apparently, there is an RFP process to bid for the conference. We need to recruit the right team to help respond to the RFP.

DrupalCon in NYC? How do we make it happen?
A few years ago there was a core group working on a proposal but I'm not sure what happened with that effort. It has been a long time since an East Coast DrupalCon so it's long overdue. Either way they are planned 2 to 4 years in advance by the DA so it's a long term commitment.

Thanks for the feedback/insight. I'm totally new to this discussion, but it might be worth doing some sleuthing to understand the history of the NYC bid.

Group presence
Hi all,
Not only this is a long term commitment, but there's also a shortage of volunteers in general. It is of utmost importance that we all join forces at the DrupalNYC group and make sure the core groups at NYCcamp and DrupalNYC know that we'd like to be involved and we'd like DrupalConNYC happen. To make things happen, the first thing to do is to step up and volunteer our time. Do not let your current skill levels hold you back from volunteering, there will be training and especially mentoring when you ask the right questions.
Cheers,

Group presence
The groups in the surrounding areas should be asked to chip in. Central NJ & the folks who help put on the DrupalCampNJ. There is probably a large overlap between all the groups.

Drupalcon in NYC
I'm glad this came back up - yes we tried about 4-5 years ago but failed for a number of reasons. The DA has some specific requirements that COULD be met here in NYC.
Many of the comments made in this thread are true - in the end a strong, cohesive volunteer group that stays committed from planning through execution could make this happen.
Not sure I can make the next meetup to rekindle this discussion, but I could see helping organize a BoF on this on the Thursday (evening?) of NYCCAMP.
