I'm gluten-sensitive myself, so I won't be able to partake in pizza or bagels. Is anyone else gluten-free or interested in a gluten-free option?
We could order a rotisserie chicken ($9-$12 for a whole chicken), salads, or some Asian food perhaps.

Gluten Free++
I would love a gluten free option.

Gluten Free +++
I'm gluten free, too, and would appreciate a gluten free option! :)
While I'm not gluten free I
While I'm not gluten free I am interested in a pizza alternative such as roast chicken :).
breakfast
I'm ordering the stuff for breakfast, I'll look into gluten-free options and make sure we have something for you all.
Interested in
Interested in cheese/milk/cream-free alternatives (so chicken, salad or Asian sound great!)

Gluten free ++
Gluten free options would also work well for diabetics, so I'm ++ on that. Low or no fat options are a plus.
And I know some people that are dairy intolerant as well.
Dietary options for DrupalCamp
Thank you to all who have so far expressed the need for options, and especially to those who have suggested suitable alternatives. I have volunteered to source the food for the event, and would welcome anyone who wants to work on this together.
I will be at the meet-up tonight, and starting Friday, will engage in this conversation actively and regularly and hope to have everyone come away from the event well fed and happy.
Dietary options for DrupalCamp
That's great - @Melissamcewen has also volunteered to take care of lunch (and Eric is coordinating breakfast), so if you guys can work together, that would be great. I think Melissa is out of town this week, but we can discuss further this evening at the meetup. Have you signed up to the organizer's list already? https://lists.mayfirst.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/drupalcampnyc
If anyone else has time to volunteer for the event, either to help ahead of time or on the day, please sign up to the list and introduce yourself!
Cheers,
Thomas

no flesh please lacto-ovo
no flesh please
lacto-ovo vegetarian, pizza ok
great middle eastern food on Atlantic Avenue - last year Alex brought in yummy hummus, baba ganoush, roasted eggplant, stuffed grape leaves and pitas to the post party - I can pick it up if that helps
¿ are you netsperienced ?

vegetarian please
non-meat/fish options would be great.
hard liquor, that's ok. ;)
thank you.
+1 to non-meat +1 to
+1 to non-meat
+1 to non-lactose
Regarding "non-meat" etc.
Please note that we already asked at registration time who wants "vegan, vegetarian, omnivore, or no preference".
Please don't repeat that on this thread. The food committee already has that information. By repeating that information here you make this thread longer and thus more work for the food committee to review.
All we are looking for here are dietary restrictions in addition to or more specific than vegan or vegetarian (such as gluten free requirement).
So "vegetarian please" or "non-meat" aren't really necessary on this thread.
Thanks.
Food allergy
I have a yeast allergy (different than gluten) and I should be on the Candida diet. So -- please have mediterrean food options. Thanks!
Fellow yeast-free.
+1 - Mediterranean, fresh fruit, fresh veggies. Atlantic Avenue is close and there is a Trader Joe's at Court street along with 4 Middle Eastern groceries on Atlantic between Court and Clinton.
adds a ton of complexity
one of the reasons we default to pizza is it is simple. Easy to estimate how much to order, easy to get to the venue (it's delivered), easy to quickly grab and get out of the way so the next person can get theirs, little extra is needed in terms of serving utensils etc.
This is not true of Mediterranean food, fresh fruit and veggies. That added complexity makes it unlikely to happen. While we can try to get some small amount of food for those with special needs, I don't know if any of the organizers are ready to take on a big shopping trip to Trader Joe's or a grocery store.
As well, pizza is relatively inexpensive when compared to the options you are suggesting.
Maybe we can arrange to reimburse you if you are willing to take on picking up food for the yeast-free crowd, but we'd need to figure out how many people that would be and give you a very strict budget to stay within. Interested?
If you get the total count
If you get the total count and reimburse me, I have no problem going and picking up delicious food! ^^
exactly...
As is the norm for NYC DrupalCamp, 90% if not 100% of the food is meat-free, we always provide a vegan option as well.
This time we will strive to also have a gluten free option. I'm not sure we can provide for all allergies and preferences but I'll do my best.
how do i update my profile
how do i update my profile with a photo? i can't seem to figure it out... :/
@halseaon
click "my account" then "edit" then half way down the page is an upload field.
Gluten Free
I've ordered a gluten-free pasta dish each day - more than enough for the four people above who specified a gluten-free requirement. I'll ask one of the volunteers on the day to make sure it only goes to those that need it!
I've ordered five vegan (cheese free) pizzas each day for those that need it - the rest are all vegetarian.
Scheduling is happening right now, so we'll designate one table in one room over lunch to have the vegan and gluten free food.
Thanks very much to David, Eric, Lippe & Melissa for helping with all the food organizing.
