Moving Drupal Installs

Hey all, as I mentioned last night at the LA Drupal group I'm trying to move a Drupal install from a Windows XP box to a Linux box (Fedora Core 8). I'm working in the command line and I've done a mysqldump to a .sql file which I then move to the Fedora box. Both are running the same version of MySQL but as soon as I load the data into the database I get 404 errors when I try to hit the site.

As many of you mentioned last night there should be no issue in moving a database. I'm sure I'm doing something else wrong.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Vaughn

How many sql queries per page is normal?

Hi,

I know drupal is heavily database run to pull a single page.

I'd like to know the average number of sql queries run to construct a tipical (front) page.

I ran devel to collect query info on one of my sites I work on, and it shows that 800+ queries ran! Is this normal? I thought it was too many for a single page. If this is more than average, could you suggest ways to reduce the the number of sql queries? Did I miss big things to check as a new comer?

Thanks.

New to Drupal - Course or Book Recommendation

My organization wants me to learn Drupal. They are interested in having me take a course, but all the information I've seen so far in this group links to more advanced courses. Are there any courses in LA for people new to Drupal? Are there any books anyone recommends for getting a basic introduction?

Is it officially trivial to build a social network? (Functionally speaking?)

This is a follow-on to the question I raised at the meeting about wondering "how to compete when creating an online community is no longer a challenge". If everyone can flip a switch and have a fully-functioning online community site, what does that mean?
