Best approach to breaking book into chapters?

I'm currently developing an online recipe book for a food client so of course, I'm using the Book module to do it. Question is being a Drupal newbie what is the best approach to break apart the book into Chapters? You know, so you can have one chapters on Appetizers, another on Soups, another on Desserts and so on. I'm thinking the best way to do this is to start with a master book page, then have a series of child pages which in turn would be the 'chapters' and then more child pages under that which would be the recipes. How does this sound?

Poormanscron: OK to use for cron jobs?

Got a problem. Just installed Drupal on an OSX Leopard server and of course, I need to configure cron jobs on it. Problem is Leopard has depreciated cron, so I'm wondering if we could use Poormanscron instead?

Anyone in L.A. with experience hacking CiviCRM?

I'm trying to figure out how best to modify the CiviContribute module within CiviCRM to allow for multiple donations with membership sign-up. Right now, you can only make one donation and one membership payment per transaction.

Ideally, there would be a series of checkboxes that would allow users to type in optional donation amounts to different programs, something like this:

Donate [ _______ ]* to Foundation
Donate [ _______ ]* to Museum
Donate [ _______ ]* to Education program

Drupal Setup question: Can't set up user

I'm currently working with a tech firm in Dallas on a Drupal setup. Their first so they don't completely know what they're doing. We finally got the install working so I went in to set me up as a user on the site. Clicked the Create New Account button, submitted my username and email address and never received an email confirmation with my password. Not good. I checked PHPmyAdmin and sure enough, my username is setup with an encrypted password but that doesn't help me since it's encrypted. How can I get my email confirmation.

Max number of Taxonomies?

I'm curious if anyone has ever ran into a site or project where they went taxonomy crazy where there were TOO many taxonomies on a node?

3-4 Categories can be common and useful, but at what point do the taxonomies become a burden to performance? 10? 50?

Gut feeling says 5 or less would be optimal, but is it ok to have 10 or 20? I'm curious to get people's thoughts. If anyone has used a ton of taxonomies in a project I'm curious if it worked out for their site. Any links to articles/posts about the topic would be helpful too.

thanks!

Creating a staff directory

I've been trying to figure out the best way to create a staff directory for our newspaper site.

It isn't totally straight forward because I need to separate it by departments and the head of each department will also need to be a part of the Executive staff. Because the department heads are in two places and in different orders, I'm having some difficulty trying to figure out the best way to approach this.

If I create a sort order field, it will apply to one department, but not the Executive team and vice versa...

Active State Navigation Menu Item

Hi All,

I really enjoyed the last meet up on the topic of themes, thank you for the wonderful discussions. Since then I realized that I have had another pertinent question regarding theming with rollover and active menu images. I am using the image menu module to create rollovers for my primary navigation. Any ideas on how to have a page in a site represented by an active state button? Attached is an image of what I am trying to achieve.

Much thanks,

D

Greetings from Iran and also the weirdest drupal issue

Dear friends in La: first, I am so sorry I will miss the LA camp this year. I learned a tremendous amount last year and I hope you guys do videos. I am in Iran right now at my dad's home and won't be back till fall. There are protests in streets everyday, we hear. Don't know if Iran is still in the news over there.

I've got a the weirdest issue: I upgraded my own site from drupal 4.7 to 6.13 (by going thru 5.1, 5.18 & 6.6 first).

Now, I've noticed that every new node or every old node that I edit and save is inaccessible to authenticated and anonymous users.

Problem with 6.13 and core fields not being operable

I'll try to keep it short (and first person to help me solve this gets a $15 gift card to coffee house of their choosing):
1. I have installed several 6.12 sites and they work fine
2. GoDaddy went to 6.13, so I've just installed that.
3. On the blog entry, create an ad, fckeditor (admin>site config>fck editor settings), and probably more - the fields are not operable. As in, I can see them, but I cannot click thru them to configure.

Do you have room to put up one or two Drupal ninjas for the Code Sprint

We need housing for two young Drupal ninjas (17 & 18) for Friday and Saturday 8/14-15 and possibly Sunday. Anyone have an extra room?

The sprint is in Santa Monica at Causecast, and they do not have transportation.

Please let me know if you can help.

Of course, if you would like to sponsor their hotel room, that would be okay too. You would get major props and appropriate signage.
