Creating UI patterns for add / edit flows

I started working on add / edit flows in Drupal. It's about unification add / edit interactions in Drupal, harmonizing their forms, layout, flows and language; creating and implementing universal UI patterns.

http://kika.trip.ee/files/d8ux/add.html

is the first rough draft of analysis / proposal. The idea is to let it mature a bit and then bring it to D8 issue queue.

Form error UX feedback wanted

I'd like feedback on a proposal for how Form Errors work in Drupal 8 core:

http://groups.drupal.org/node/209513

I've created that Wiki page with proposed screenshots in response to the lengthy discussion in issue #447816 about how Drupal core FAPI indicates form validation errors using color.

Module interviews analysis

Goal

This study was focused on understanding the current behavior of users and the desired behavior of users. This to inform our process in redesigning the module page.

Specific research questions we set out to answer:

<

ul>

  • In which situations do people use the module page?
  • What are the commons tasks the user performs on the module page?
  • How do they experience using the module page for these situations?
  • What are their needs and desires for the module page?
  • How do people experience the grouping?

The Progression of the Drupal Mobile HTML Prototype

The aim of the Drupal Mobile HTML prototype is to demonstrate the look, feel and thinking behind the design for Drupal’s Mobile Admin interface. It is purely for demonstrative purposes.
This document references the D8MUX Roadmap and everything in that post also applies here.

    Media module designs

Here are some designs for media module improvements that i did about a year ago. Some of this got implemented but there's more that might be useful. I have also attached the multilayered fireworks file (media_manager_i044.png) if anyone wants to pick up on this work and carry it forward.

Drupal 7 Usability Study at Google: Results and Notes

In february 2012, a usability study of Drupal 7 was done at Google.

…to gain insight into how non-engineering, tech-savvy users interact with the Drupal content management system when they first begin using it.

Videos will be posted soon, watch this space. The testing team will meet again this week to compare notes. Use this page and the comments to add yours!

Drupal usability study at Google - Watch live!

    Start:
    2012-02-03 12:00 - 16:00 America/Los_Angeles
    Event type:
    Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)

Google employee Becky "technicka" Gessler is running a series of usability studies on Drupal this week. http://groups.drupal.org/node/204868 has all of the details; here are the highlights:

    • There will be two sets of usability tests run: one on Feb 1 using "stock" Drupal 7 and one on Feb 3 using the Drupal 7 media dev install profile (which already includes and pre-configures WYSIWYG, Media, Views, and several other modules) so that we can compare/contrast the results.

    • The tests will not only cover ground by previous usability tests (creating content, basic administration, modules), but also attempt to get into more advanced functionality such as Field UI and Views.

    • The tests will be live-streamed so we can all watch people bash their faces into tables together. (And hopefully patch issues as fast as we find 'em! :))

    • Participants are Google employees (non-engineers) with no Drupal experience who genuinely want to create a simple website, so have motivation to learn Drupal.

It should be highly fun, insightful, and educational. :) Join us in the Google+ hangout and in #drupal-usability on IRC for the peanut gallery!

Drupal 7 Usability Study at Google

    What’s the study?

The purpose of this study is to gain insight into how non-engineering, tech-savvy users interact with the Drupal content management system when they first begin using it. We have two groups of users: the first group (February 1) will start with vanilla Drupal 7 and we will be studying their conceptual understanding of Drupal themes. The second group will start with the Drupal 7 as well as a number of modules relevant to the tasks pre-installed. For the second group (February 3), we are more interested in UX issues related to specific core/contrib module interfaces. This project aims to raise awareness of Drupal usability issues to a broader sector of the community. The sessions will be livestreamed and available for anyone to watch by using Livestream.com and a Google+ public hangout.

Improving the Sign In Registration and Account Management interactions

    Hi all!

I'm new to the Drupal UX community, but not new to Drupal or User Experience Design. (I've added some info to my drupal.org profile for those interested in reading more...) I just finished speaking with yoroy about diving into Drupal UX work and the topic of Account Management came up. I mentioned how much it annoyed me and, lo and behold, it turns out that it's a pretty common pain point around here. So, I thought I'd kickoff my inaugural journey into doing UX with the Drupal Community with a discussion about Drupal's Sign In, Registration, and Account Management interactions.

Drupal 7 usability testing (Orientation + Theme)

    Hello All,

I plan to conduct a usability study with new users to understand how they get oriented and use Drupal for the very first time. I know some of you had concerns about usability testing being favored toward the new users and not the existing ones. We have studies in mind for them as well :) It is just a matter of time and project management.

Here is a rough rough draft of the study. I would be very much interested in your feedback. Based of the feedback, I will go ahead and create a more robust screener and moderator's guide.
