Getting Feedback?
I'm finishing up work on a network of sites that will likely be getting a huge amount of incoming users in the coming weeks. One thing I haven't included yet it is a way to provide feedback about issues and problems (I know there must be some :). I could use a simple contact form but I'm wondering some of the best approaches for getting user feedback and handling issues within Drupal. Thoughts?
Read morePattern library To-do's
We have been working on the pattern library at http://drupal.org/ui-standards and we are slowly getting closer to a workable version for inclusion in our gates. I would love for others to contribute more to this, so here goes my own to-do list for the pattern library. Obviously the end-goal is a pattern library that is really easy to comprehend and apply, with walk-through, the individual patterns and a easy to navigate listing.
First of all almost all patterns still need review, from both copy to the recommendations. Additionally some of them are still incomplete, in general I wish to:
Read morePimping Field UI
Display Suite uses Field UI to add all its extra features in two ways
- Extra vertical tabs at the bottom for the various options: layout, styles, region to block, custom fields
- Adding a region column in the table, adding the 'Limit items' textfield next to the format and the 'Field display' link for the markup and label.
I think the solution of the vertical tabs has turned out fine and doesn't really need improvements here (unless someone disagrees of course). The area which could need some improvements though are on the table itself.

We are planning to do our next IRC meeting on Usability. The Usability IRC meetings are our version of UX Happy Hour. In order to have a more effective integration of usability to Drupal (especially for D8) and give usability feedback to designs, the UX team is going to start the bi-weekly one-hour IRC (#drupal-usability) meetings. Agenda for each meeting will vary.
The agenda for this meeting:
1. Review contributed modules on their UX.
Any contrib maintainer, please submit your module for review with some screens or a demo!

A part of the UX gate is a set of guidelines for deciding when and how to do usability testing. This is the working document for those guidelines.

Drupal admin comes down to filling out forms, so write clear and consistent labels, and where needed, use descriptions to help people make a decision and move on.

At ideup!, on the 6th of June we tested Drupal 7's Bartik theme. The target was to verify which parts of the whole theme were well organized and easy to be adopted by the users and which ones did not.
Summary
The good news are that there is nothing critical that could turn wrong the impression of a newcommer ;-D.

Hello Usability Peeps,
It is already the time for our the next IRC meeting on usability. To give you some background what is this? The Usability IRC meetings are our version of UX Happy Hour. In order to have a more effective integration of usability to Drupal (especially for D8) and give usability feedback to designs, the UX team is going to start the bi-weekly one-hour IRC (#drupal-usability) meetings. Agenda for each meeting will vary.
The agenda for this meeting:
1. Discussion: Things you would like to be changed in D8 with respect to usability and why?
Usability and Accessibility, do they make sense together?: UPA Boston Meeting
UPA (Usability Professionals' Association) Boston is having a meeting on July 20, 2011 for a night of accessibility at the MIT Stata Center in Cambridge.
CONSIDER ATTENDING IF YOU AROUND THE AREA AND INTERESTED IN THE TOPIC.

The topic to be discussed:
Usability and Accessibility, do they make sense together?
Files and Documents Organization: Module / Setup Suggestions
I've setup a COD (conference organization distro) for a yearly environmental conference that works quite well in general. Unfortunately, the group I made this site for is transitioning from a simple HTML site with most changes being uploaded as pdfs via ftp. Traditionally they do most of their changes and communications via documents and files. Instead of providing ftp access, what modules or setups provide a good, safe and clean UI for Files and Documents Organization?
Thanks...

DrupalCon is approaching! Excited?
I am thinking of leveraging this opportunity and get some data. We could of course do usability testing! But instead I think, I would be better to do user research because:
- Usability Testing can be done remotely
- We are getting usability testing data (slowly but, yes!)
- We don't have any user research data
- User research data will greatly help the design process + plus many other obvious advantages

Drupal 8 User Experience Sprint - Drupalcon London
Mobile user experience
People are accessing with the web more and more on the move from their mobile devices. If it hasn’t already, it will be a basic expectation of any product to be just as usable from any device as it is on the desktop. Drupal has some catching up to do and then some. We need to make Drupal 8 friendly with tomorrow’s devices as well as today’s.
This sprint will focus on usability testing on a wide range of devices. Bring your phone, tablet, web enabled e-reader or gaming device.

Over the past few months we've been working away behind the scenes on the Drupal Design site prototype. There are quite a number of technical considerations when building a new drupal.org sub-site so these needed to be ironed out before we could really show this off.
I've posted a number of screen grabs to Notable and we can use these to collect comments and feedback on the various screens throughout the site - you can leave general comments here but if you're wanting to leave comments about the actual screens please post those to Notable.
