Major UX risk - Modules in D8 might not be possible to disable
For the last few months I have been following the progress of https://drupal.org/node/1199946 (Disabled modules are broken beyond repair) and issue that originally was created two years ago.
In my opinion there is great risk this is going to turn into yet another UX nightmare for Drupal 8. The current course this issue is taking is that core wont have any UI for disabling modules. See the https://drupal.org/node/1199946#comment-7525917 comment for resent info about this.

Proposal based on observations from UX Hangout June 3rd
I had a great time at the Monday UX meeting yesterday and I believe we accomplished a lot as well as made progress about many other important things. As this was the first time I attended from start to end, I would like to take this opportunity to present the good, the bad and the ugly from my fresh point of view.

The key to improving Drupal 8 UX is get actionable issues into the queue as soon as possible.
During a community ux/usability BoF at Drupalcon Portland, we identified some areas of Drupal 8 that need usability testing. The testing will uncover issues to be fixed. Volunteers are needed to run usability studies at Drupalcamps or with others locally this summer. Coaching on running usability studies and assistance with the usability study script will be provided.

It allows you to embed node fields (images, videos, files and any others) right in the node body using a simple inline tag: [fieldname:items|position].
Syntax
[fieldname:items|position]
- fieldname — machine name of a field
- items (optional) — index of item (or range of items)
- position (optional) — 'default', 'center', 'left' or 'right'
All following constructions are supported:

May 2013 DrupalCape Meet-Up - UX Unplugged
Its been a while and we have missed you. We have had 4 rather cosy meetings so far this year, and with the winter coming on we thought that a little more body heat would be good. Soooo, come and join us!!
This meeting format will take the form of a presentation and then a workshop in which we take a look at two sites which Marco will select, one good, and one bad.
Please take a look at the Eventbrite page here http://www.eventbrite.com/event/6730000613 to find out more about the meeting and also to book a seat :).

This is a proposed solution to the problems outlined in the Review of the usability of Overlay in Drupal 8 by the same author.
Terms
Primary Object: anything the user begins editing directly from a menu or list page.
Secondary Object: anything the user begins editing from within the task flow of editing a primary object.

Over the past months as we worked to improve the user experience for content authors in D8 by simplifying the way users perform the most basic tasks in Drupal an issue that has repeatedly arisen is the overlay module. There has always been some debate about it’s value—and given that changes are already necessary to integrate with new core functionality—this is a good time to drill in and re-assess how overlay is working and see if we can improve it. To set the context here are a few of our observations:

After much work, study and research and testing, the Spark team has arrived at the latest iteration on edit-in-place. We think is a big improvement on the interaction pattern, but we want feedback from the usability group before we push it to the issue.
The prototype is currently in Invision and can be viewed here: http://invis.io/FVB89STC *
Since I posted the invision above Prestonso and I have built an HTML version also which is more up-to-date with design and demonstrates the interactions with some fancy javascript. It's here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/g6mcyc6gbj7ty10/SGZ5vgtD2A

Meeting notes UX Happy hour March 4, 2013
UX hours 4 March 2013
Back to bi-weekly
We moved to a weekly meetup during feature-complete frenzy. With momentum in the queues a good bit slower now we're in feature freeze, we're moving back to a bi-weekly schedule. Next UX open hours: March 18.
Make blocks shippable
Blocks UI needs some serious work. Meta issue: http://drupal.org/node/1875252
Kevin will post an updated prototype soon. Lisarex suggested to sprint on this during global sprint day. It's certainly an interesting piece to work on and really try and get in a better shape than it is now.

We had our weekly UX happy hour on Feb 25, 2013 from 4 pm to 5 pm (EST) on #drupal-usability
The meeting was attended by: bojhan, dcmistry, koleary, jbeach, tvn, yoroy
Points of discussion:
- How can the contributors contribute to the UX project?
o Bojhan and Dcmistry to work on documentation
o Koleary to kick-off discussion on adding contributions to the profile page for non-tech guys: designers/ ux researchers/ project managers/marketing, etc.
- Make the block plugin UI shippable
Entity forms
Hey guys i'm being bold here. But i couldn't figure out where to add D8 feature request so i thought i gave it a shot here.
I was wondering if what the pro's and con's are of making forms more entity'ish..
Why not make "all" the forms based on this form.entity type. Adding field (and thus widgets) would be a breeze (from a UI perspective). In core there are a few "fixed" forms like:
- the login form
- the contact form
- the password forget form
- the comments form
- the modules forms (like rating of add to cart)
- e.t.c.
Proposal: A Style Guide for Seven
Last updated by riddhi.addweb on Thu, 2016-08-11 14:22

This style guide proposal for Drupal 8 core and contributed modules is intended to help shape and direct administrative UI development, with the goal being a theme- and brand-consistent administrative user experience. This node introduces design element proposals and related discussion. The evolution of the project can also be followed at:
Meta issue: https://drupal.org/node/1986434
Related issues: https://drupal.org/project/issues/search/drupal?issue_tags=styleguide
Motivation and Principles
At this point in the Drupal 8 development cycle many additions and changes have been made to Drupal’s administrative user interface, and more will be required as new features are completed. The existing changes have been completed in relative isolation from each other. Although each change and addition has been a step in the right direction, the result is a UI that lacks consistency.
This is largely for lack of a guidebook for Drupal’s admin UI. Even though great, coherent UX work was done for Drupal 7, and we have functional UI standards, there remains no central guide for the visual conventions used in Drupal’s core admin theme, Seven. We need something to help us maintain visual consistency when changing and extending the UI. We need a style guide for Drupal’s default admin theme.

This discussion seeks to expand on existing discussions and activities to define guidelines for the Human Interface of Drupal 8.x
The genesis of this discussion is an observation that the current User Interface Standards don't provide any guidance on this subject.
It appears there are a couple of new use cases for icons within the Drupal UI related to the following;
- Dialog Boxes
- Toolbar Module
- Overlay
I believe we can expand on the existing documentation and provide core developers and UI designers with important standards.
