Barn Raising and Code Sprint for the Echo Park and Arroyo S.E.C.O. Time Banks at Droplabs on August 17 & 18, 2012
Join us at Droplabs on Saturday, August 18, 2012, for a Barn Raising and Code Sprint to benefit the Arroyo SECO Network of Time Banks! We are also having an open meeting of the Time Bank Tech Team the evening before on Friday, August 17, 2012 that you are welcome to attend.
There's something for everyone at this event. If you're interested in learning more about Drupal and getting some practical hands-on experience, or if you're a Drupal power user and would like to help mentor others into using Drupal's best practices for site development, this is an excellent opportunity.
The Arroyo SECO Network of Time Banks is a non-profit community collective with a mission to facilitate the cooperative exchange of goods and services among its members. Since September 2011, the Arroyo SECO Network of Time Banks has been using Drupal to manage their community website at http://arroyoseco.timebanks.org and its currency system.
At this barn raising, we'll be improving Community Weaver and creating features. The work we do will be shared with TimeBanks USA, which will directly benefit the 400+ time banks that have their own sites that use the same Drupal distribution.
This is our third barn raising for the time bank. See http://ex.tl/ZTT for more information about our previous barn raising and code sprint.

Frontend Drupal meetup at Filter Digital and via WebEx on August 28, 2012 in Culver City, CA
We're excited to announce our new Frontend Drupal meetup, which meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month. This month, we're meeting at Filter Digital, a digital solutions agency in Culver City, between 7-9pm on August 28, 2012. This meetup focuses on design, usability, accessibility and theming, and as part of the Design 4 Drupal movement is about inviting the larger design community to become a part of the Drupal community.
This is looking to be a great kickoff for our series of Frontend Drupal meetups! At our inaugural session, we'll have a presentations about the Foundation framework by Ishmael Sanchez, another presentation on Adobe Edge by shaRon and a lightning talk on @fontyourface by joyseeker.
Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes and full-length presentations. As always, we'll also have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks.
We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 9:30pm.
About Design 4 Drupal (D4D)
Translating a design into a Drupal "theme" is often a high barrier and it has been difficult and costly for many designers to have a “design-driven approach” to Drupal. Feedback from the design community has often focused on the difficulties of designing for the Drupal theme system, which combines several programming disciplines and languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
Design 4 Drupal is an organized movement in the Drupal community to help make Drupal more friendly and approachable to designers, information architects and usability engineers, and in general anyone who is interested in customizing Drupal’s output to the web page.
At its core, Design for Drupal is about inviting the larger design community together to be a part of the Drupal community and enabling designers, usability engineers, developers, information architects and themers to coordinate efforts, come up with creative ideas and work towards making Drupal easier to use and look beautiful.

We'll also hear from engineers at Riot Games (developer and publisher of the insanely popular League of Legends multiplayer online battle arena video game) about how and why they are using Drupal to power a number of their systems, from their marketing site and discussion forums to in-game announcements.
For any changes to our agenda, stay tuned to this meetup announcement or click the Sign up button below (or both!) to be notified when the agenda has been updated. Those who sign up will also receive the FreeConferenceCall and WebEx conferencing information.

(No, I don't work for Metro .. IMHO this is just a good idea) -- I will be taking the trains instead of driving 130 miles roundtrip, hasseling traffic, navigating downtown LA, paying gas and parking, and generally dreading the trip ... I will hop on the MetroLink to Union Station, grab a Redline subway to the "7th & Metro" stop and walk (or take a DASH "Route F" shuttle) a few blocks to the Convention Center for a total cost of $15.50!! A round trip Metrolink ticket entitles you to ride the connecting Redline for free, and DASH is either free with the ticket or less than a buck.

by me. I was looking at activity in the Southern California group, with the exception of a couple job posts there has been NO topical posts exclusive to the group since march of 2007. That's over a year of stagnation in a community that is far from stagnant.
I feel this leads to noise & confusion. Anyone object to killing the group? it was seems to have been created at a time before a dominant regional group took off.

Hi all. I created a minimalist Drupal site to serve as a place to discuss the agenda for the first meeting as well as announce the location once I figure out what that will be. I ended up with www.communitybuildrs.com as the domain name. It was one of the less horrific domains still available. Please feel free to create a quick account to join in the discussion and express your interest. I'm really looking forward to sharing our thoughts and ideas.
