Frontend Drupal meetup at Media Temple on September 25, 2012 in Culver City, CA
We're excited to announce the 2nd event in our series of Frontend Drupal meetups, which are on the 4th Tuesday of every month.
This month, we're meeting at Media Temple in Culver City, between 7-9pm on September 25, 2012. This meetup focuses on design, usability, accessibility and theming, and as part of the Design 4 Drupal movement is about inviting the larger design community to become a part of the Drupal community.
We're soliciting presentations for this meetup. If there's a topic that you'd like give a presentation on, please leave a comment in the comments below. Likewise, if there's a topic that you'd like to learn more about, you're welcome to make a request in the comments below. Thanks!
At last month's meetup, we had presentations about the Foundation framework by Ishmael Sanchez, another presentation on Adobe Edge by shaRon, and lightning talks on @fontyourface by joyseeker and an overview from oseldman of the theming- and design-related sessions at DrupalCon Munich.
Our meetups follow a basic format and start off with Drupal news and announcements, local job announcements, raffle prizes and full-length presentations. As always, we'll also have community Q&A, during which time anyone in attendance can ask questions, divine answers from the crowd and give brief, 5-10 minute-long presentations known as lightning talks.
We'll finish off the night with more networking and a Drupal After Dark at 9:30pm.
About Design 4 Drupal (D4D)
Translating a design into a Drupal "theme" is often a high barrier and it has been difficult and costly for many designers to have a “design-driven approach” to Drupal. Feedback from the design community has often focused on the difficulties of designing for the Drupal theme system, which combines several programming disciplines and languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.
Design 4 Drupal is an organized movement in the Drupal community to help make Drupal more friendly and approachable to designers, information architects and usability engineers, and in general anyone who is interested in customizing Drupal’s output to the web page.
At its core, Design for Drupal is about inviting the larger design community together to be a part of the Drupal community and enabling designers, usability engineers, developers, information architects and themers to coordinate efforts, come up with creative ideas and work towards making Drupal easier to use and look beautiful.

Would like to get a Drupal Cafe event going in the IE
We have had this group for a little while now, and hopefully we have gathered enough subscribers to get a small group together to discuss organizing our Inland Empire group.
It would be great if we could get a few folks together at a local cafe to discuss moving forward. The goal would be to get to know one another and find any consensus that may exist with regard to objectives for this group, potential meeting areas, potential meeting times, and if needed any areas for separate meetings that may need to be targeted toward edges of our population area.
Read moreGood way to strip HTML from teasers?
I have a community driven site that's been running for several years (started with D4.7). I use Views to display data using the default "teaser" display in lieu of fields... Since my users have been creating lots of html content with embedded imagery (haven't implemented imagecache yet) the page displays are all over the place. It's gotten to the point where it reminds me of myspace - lol - because there's no enforced order to how imagery is displayed. Some node teasers have small images, some have large images and some don't have any images...

First time posting to LA Drupal (long time follower) - I hope I'm putting this in the right place. I just ran across an announcement in my twitter feed that I thought I'd pass along here. Tuts Plus is offering an ebook "Getting Good with Git" for free during the month of October. I've been putting off learning any kind of VCS for too long but thought this looked like a pretty good, easy to read book worth looking into.

As one of DrupalCamp LA's lead organizers, my sense is that DrupalCamp LA has moved out of the realm of what a camp is and into the realm of large summits and conferences. I talked a little bit about this in a recent LA DrupalCast episode, and while I definitely thought DrupalCamp LA 2010 was a lot of fun and a moderately successful event, I think DrupalCamp LA occupies a strange place in the spectrum of camps, summits and cons.
If you haven't been to camps other than DrupalCamp LA or if you're wondering what this "Design for Drupal" stuff is, please bear with me and read the entire post and my comments below.

I hope I am posting this in the right place - pardon me if I have "done wrong".
I am interested in Drupal as a CMS. I have been combing the web to locate and meet skilled and experienced Drupal developers to identify those who would be interested in working together on a start-up. Am I in the right place? If not, could someone nudge me in the right direction? It would be great if anyone knew of regular meetings where I could attend and meet these types of individuals - preferrably Orange County or the Inland Empire.
Thanks in advance!

come checkout the new-ish SoCal Drupal group - it's been revamped. like totally. I've redone the homepage and added a "recent" tab. PLUS, I've added "locales" & "skills" that allow for better categorization of posts.
why? as I see it the main goal of the group is twofold:
- to help users in SoCal without formal groups to connect
- to help existing formal groups to find new users and more easily share information with each other, especially events.
