Integrating DTP systems and Drupal
Greetings! I am a former newspaper lackey who is currently tasked with fleshing out the integration of DTP apps in our company (I work for a non-profit telco co-op) with our online presence both externally through our company website and internally on our intranet. Both of these environments are powered by Drupal exclusively.
Read moreBest way to create channel main pages
I have been wondering what might be the best way to create channel main pages.
For a site I am working this is what I have in mind.
i) These main pages will have different regions.
ii) Different views will be slotted in these regions.
iii) There are different node types and different vocabularies for each.
iv) Create a "page" page to use as placeholder. e.g. channelname
I am slightly stuck as to how to create a template file.
Should it be page-page-channelname.tpl.php or page-page-channelname(id).tpl.php.
I have seen panels but haven't liked it so much.
TIA.

Hi All
We wanna start doing classified ads.
At first we just wanna publicize them in the paper, but later on we wanna make it possible to choose between display on the web, display in the paper or both.
Have any of you got some thoughts on this? Can you recommend a module or a thrid-party app?
So far we've looked at http://drupal.org/project/ed_classified

Yet another newspaper site on Drupal
Hi all,
Today was the big launch date of a new newspaper publication in Finland, uusisuomi.fi. The site is a free commercial online news paper. We started this project four months ago and have been extremely busy putting it together ever since. Anyway, the first and hopefully worst part is over as the site is up and running. I hope we can contribute to this group by posting a small how-uusisuomi.fi-put-it-together some day.
Some startup stats (after being online for 7 hours):
Just getting started...
There's a lot of great information on this website, and Drupal seems like a really great system to do what we want to do; but I've got a vanilla installation of Drupal up and I'm having a hard time figuring out where to go from here.
I see what people have done and I guess I have an idea of what I'd like to do, but......where to go from here, I'm a bit lost!
Any help would be greaaaatttlyy appreciated.

PlayingHere.com is site/service my brother has been developing that I think has hit the tipping point and now provides a more detailed list of live music in most US cities than what most newspapers provide. It obviously lacks musicians who aren't interested in reaching the MySpace audience (and has a lot of events from bands I personally don't care for... when did trash-christian get so popular?), but it's a great example of crowdsourcing.

Read moreSimplified UI for inserting images into blog content
Hi folks,
There is a significant hole in Drupal when it comes to a simple, clean workflow allowing content creators to upload an image and insert it into a piece of content. This functionality has been implemented elsewhere on the web (e.g. Blogger, Facebook, etc.) in a variety of ways. Under Drupal, the 'img_assist' module burdens users with creating an image node and the 'upload' module provides insufficient UI integration that couples images with a text block, rather than with a node.

What can Drupal do for my newspaper site?
This wiki page answers some of the basic questions of how Drupal may be used for powering a newspaper website. The intended audience is newspaper people who have just heard about Drupal, and want to know a bit more about what it is and what you can do with it.
There's a discussion at the bottom of the page. If you're new to Drupal, feel free to add any questions you have there. (If you're not new to Drupal, feel free to answer any questions or to improve this page in any way you find suitable.)
I've included a some questions concerning import/export, heavy data traffic and a bit more. I'd be grateful if anyone with more Drupal-skills could check these. Also - since I'm not a native English-writer, I'd also be happy for language checks. And, of course, anybody is free to change the page in a way they think improves it. //Itangalo
