Tearsheet: Exporting to Print

I mentioned when this group started that we had written a simple module called Tearsheet. Its purpose is to let editors search for content and export plain-text formatted for pasting into a front-end system.

The original module is 4.6 and relies on a custom module that is unreleasable. But I was talking to Tim from Maine this week and he's trying to do export using Views and having trouble.

Printer Friendly Solution?

I'm wondering if anyone has a favorite solution (drupal 5.x) for creating printer-friendly pages? I found the Printable module, in development release only (http://drupal.org/project/printable). Has anyone used this? Or can you suggest other alternatives?

Thanks.

First step with a Drupal-built newspaper site

Hi everybody,

My name is Jo - an exclusive Joomla web developper - but I had to reconsider this state since I plan to run a newspaper website and also after a quick visit within the drupal community. Here are the main points of my project:
- an online newspaper regrouping many authors and editors living in different countries
- manage their work by using a groupware and collaboration solution
- manage premium users with payment subscriptions and a possibility of getting dats to perform a marketting surveys
- manage classified ads

Quick introduction from Scrippsland

Hi, all. I'm Jay Small, director of online audience and operations for the newspaper division of E.W. Scripps Co., and an occasional consultant on interactive media strategies.

Thanks for allowing me to join. I'm here because Scripps has a number of pilot development projects in works for which Drupal appears to be a good fit. Recently I've been building prototype product sites for internal consideration using first 4.7 and now 5.1, and believe Drupal has come a very, very long way since I first tried it a couple of years back.

Image handling

Hi everybody

We're trying to import images into nodes. And right now we're trying out two approaches.

1.
Ftp'ing images into files-dir, and passing the filname to a CCK textfield using node_save.
In the nodetemplate, we customize the field to show up in an img-tag.
This works, but it means that we cannot use imagecache, which would be really nice

Publishing Newspaper Event Listings

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have had success using Drupal to publish listings of movies, concerts, theatre and other events both to a newspaper while also allowing for dynamic searches on the website.

I would guess that the Events module might be a good place to start, but there maybe a better way to go that I'm not aware of.

The main challenges for us are the different ways we want to format these for print as opposed to the web.

Oldest 'Newspaper' goes online only

In what I see as an inevitable slide, we can see the oldest newspaper going digital-only. Wired has the news from one of their bloggers that Sweden's Post-och Inrikes Tidningar is going digital only.

NITF2node-module or code-bits?

Hi.

Do any of you guys have a module or parts of a module or just some codebits to do NITF to node parsing and insertion? I that case, I would really like to have a look. I'm considering doing my own from scratch, but a little snippet to get me going would be really cool.

Best,
/J.

Congratulations to Steve Yelvington

Hi -

Many of us know Mr. Yelvington from the great help he's given each of us in the Drupal community. For those of us who do, it should come as no surprise that he captured this year's Newspaper Association of America Online Innovator award:

Congratulations, Steve, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Introduction: Subir Ghosh

Hi, I am Subir Ghosh. I run Newswatch (www.newswatch.in). I am essentially a journalist, but I create my own sites too. Newswatch is based on WordPress. It was made with NucleusCMS earlier. And then I had to migrate to WordPress because of its robust category structure and of course perfect search results. I have a created a few other magazine sites for a few friends.. all using WordPress. It was a toss-up between WordPress and Drupal and I settled for the former. Primarily because of its more design flexibility, pagination possibilities, etc.

citizen journalism site needs boost

I run a nascent citizen journalism site, itsyourtimes.com, that runs on Drupal. I'm running into problems and don't have the personal technical or staff resources to dig deep into code to fix them. I need plug-n-play, WYSIWYG tools. I'm running 4.6 on a shared server and have run into php memory issues that prevent me from using very many modules. I want a dedicated server but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Hello to group from print/online newspaper in California USA

I've been using Drupal, for the first time, about 4 months now as the backbone of my online newspaper www.fillmoregazette.com. My skill level is beginner. There is so much I would like to be able to do online that I am currently reading books and learning PHP along with how to make Drupal modules.

I have to say thanks to Jason Cooper at Tiraspoltimes because it was his website I examined when considering what CMS to use. Based on my needs and the functionality of his Drupal site, It convinced my to go with Drupal.

Support for NewsML in aggregator module

Hi there.
In a local organizational newspaper I have been helping with over the years, I did an extensive investigation into NewsML as a way of standardizing archiving and editing content format for hard copy production, as a way of guaranteeing that the archive would never be isolated and impossible to translate (via xslt or other means) into a newly adopted format.
NewsML (see http://www.newsml.org ) is being used by Reuters, AFP, and in tens of the world's top newspaper organization publishers (see http://www.newsml.org/pages/whouse_main.php ).

Module proposal: Javascript widget generator

I had a brief conversation about this with Ken today and he suggested I post it here. This is just the seed of a module definition; comments and refinements are invited.

We all need to make little chunks of content -- generally headlines and links -- available to other sites. RSS is one way to do that, but Javascript "widgets" are another way, and potentially a better solution in some cases.
