Final list will be given to the venue at 10pm on September 6th (the evening before the meetup)

Plans?

  • LIGHTNING ROUNDS
New feature. Have a topic you can present in 5 minutes (with 5 more minutes for questions)? The basic idea is there are patterns for developing sites the "drupal" way ("what would drupal do? etc."). Tell us a quick 5 minute recipe for how to put the Drupal "bricks" together. Theming techniques or other things may also be appropriate. Propose it below. Make sure you mention it is for the "lightning round" otherwise it might get confused with a longer presentation.

    • Intro to Omega 3.x - banghouse
    • Help us! Help You :) conversation starter - RobbieTheGeek
    • ApacheSolr Entity Indexer - LSU_JBob
  • "Redo" my keynote from DrupalCampCT - johnvsc
  • Display Suite - bleen18
  • Demystified Drupal 7 Ubercart 3.x Checkout Theming - duckx
  • SASS and the art of CSS - Snugug
  • Prepping for upstream caching - smerrill

This may be a good time to test drive a presentation before the upcoming Drupal Camp NYC 10, also think about target audience and experience level of your presentation.

Signup Instructions!: 7 World Trade Center security checks your photo id against the list of attendees that we provide.

"Redo" my keynote from DrupalCampCT

I got a great response from that presentation ... would anyone like a quick recap of it?

John's talk "From Margin to Center -> A Map to Navigate the Journey from Open Source to Personal Gain" will touch on 3 major themes in site development: 1) Ethics in Practice, 2) Desires and Skills, 3) The Secret of Our Success.

YES PLZ, this keynote sounds

Excellent speech. Thanks.

Thanks for such an insightful talk

John, your "path to 'painless' web development" and the whole of your skillful and witty presentation are a fresh insight into an "apps" industry where more often than not quantity supersedes quality. Thanks, again!

Yay were up...

So as for August meetup I decided to just pay for a vimeo account to create a NYC Meetup Channel to upload these presentations as the free one was annoying with their 500mb upload limit.

So now we have a video channel up: http://vimeo.com/channels/drupalnyc

Also want to give a really big thanks to Kenny and Jeong from AV Event Stream for volunteering to help us record, stream and edit everyone's presentations. At first I thought it would be easy to just record and edit with a mini camcorder, but that definately does not work as the sound and lighting is completely off as tried before with forest's cam. These recordings wouldnt have been possible without their professional equipment and help. Hopefully we can one day convert them to Drupal instead of wondering what we're talking about at these meetups. =)

Since this coming meetup is going to be streamed again, I wonder how many viewers we can get. Last time we announced it last minute on IRC and we already hit 22 viewers. It would be awesome if we can be the world's top drupal meetup group with the most attendees and online viewers! Imagine your presentations being seen by over 100 people from around the world.

Oh and this coming meetup I want to present on something I worked on last month, as there isnt really any upto date tutorials on ubercart theming:

Presentation:
Demystified Drupal 7 Ubercart 3.x Checkout Theming

Will be going over how to theme the horribly annoying checkout section of Ubercart 3.x on Drupal 7.
0. Before and After Ubercart screenshots
1. Go over how the checkout / review page is constructed.
2. Theme functions that are involved
3. Quick overview of what I updated for easier css styling. Damn those tables!

Hopefully I'll be able to get this presentation written up by then.

Thanks for everyone making this possible!

P.S. I made some Drush designed reference wood engravings this time. I only have about 15-20 left of blank woods left. I wont be able to engrave it all as i can only make 3 a hour whenever i have time. i still have the VIM and D7 api woods too. Anyone interested let me know.

Thanks duckx.

Drush me please

I would like to have a drush one. I'd take one of each but the drush one is the one I'll get the most use out of so if I have to choose I say Drush. Thanks!

Display Suite

Sat in on a session at DrupalCon London and I would LOVE to show off some of the ridiculously amount of awesomesauce that DS brings. It does WAAAAAAY more than I ever thought it could and has utterly changed my theming strategy.

I propose a 20min session if people want to hear about the magnitude of awesomeness that this module brings. You'll never theme the same way again

yes this interest me. +1

To clarify (as I'm think of a better title), my session will NOT just focus on creating a mobile version of your site or behind-the-scenes of mobile integration per se, but rather using social media and mobile integration (i.e. SMS) in terms of actual user interaction versus syndicating content.

Please start thinking about your audience and experience level you are targeting. This will allow me to shuffle the sessions/talks to allow those new to Drupal to see appropriate talks before we to the New2Drupal BoF.

Cache Money

Steven Merrill's picture

I know that I've recently given a session on mainly the theory behind Varnish, but I'd like to do a short (15 min max) talk on how to ensure your Drupal site can be properly cached by upstream caches like Varnish or Akamai.

It will go over a small bit of theory on HTTP headers and caching and show what to do in Drupal 7 and Pressflow 6, including some common pitfalls.

Intro to Omega 3.x (lightning talk)

banghouse's picture

Having built a few sites using Omega, I could give a lightning talk on the Omega Base Theme (5-8 minutes).

--What is Omega
--Create a subtheme using Omega tools or Drush
--Demo theme settings
--Media queries/Responsive design (time permitting)
--Delta Layouts & Delta Blocks via Context (time permitting)
--Questions, Etc. (time permitting)

Geared toward php noobs in need of more control over layouts by way of Omega theme settings.

I would really really like this!!!

Pistachio Pony's picture

I have been trying to figure Omega out for awhile and have had trouble with it. It seems so easy to use and yet.....AAAArgh.

SASS and the art of CSS

Snugug's picture

I'd love to give a little talk on SASS; what it is, how it works, why it's good, etc… Basically, a smaller version of my BoF from DrupalCon London and a test for DrupalCamp NYC

Also, as a side note, it's not letting me sign up even though I've got my full name associated with my account.
Nevermind, a simple front end CSS hack let me put in my full name on Groups and I'm good to go now.

We are down to Lightening

We are down to Lightening Rounds for this meetup is that what you need 5 minutes or if you need 20 minutes we can push you to the first slot for the next meetup?

Snugug's picture

Was interested in a bit of a longer conversation than 5 minutes, so I'd be fine punting to next meetup. Don't have to be first next time though.
Yah, sure, I'll do a lightning round for SASS and if people are interested, next meetup I'll do a longer one (and get my suggestion in faster)

Workbench anyone?

joebachana's picture

Hey does anyone feel prepared to do a prez on WorkBench? I'm hearing great things from a bunch of different people who were at Drupalcon London and I wonder if someone is up for showing us whats going on with that module from Palantir. Sounds sorta exciting, JB

This meeting kicks off the 7th year...

noneck's picture

Hi everyone. I am really excited for this week's meeting.

Over the weekend, I took a trip down memory lane and realized that 25 Aug 2005 is first time NYC Drupalers met up for regularly scheduled meetings. This means for this meeting we mark our 6th birthday and the beginning of our 7th year. NYC is one of FIRST drupal user groups in the world. Also, we are home to "DrupalCamp". While I never thought Drupal would amount to such a crazy community, I'm excited to see what the next half of the decade brings.

(Sidenote - On 17 May 2005, there was a civicspace day that brought us all together. The very first, unconference "DrupalCamp" was held in NYC and was organized on 13 May 2006.)

geekgirlweb's picture

Hey guys,

Due to the fun weather yesterday I managed to get myself sick. Is there someone who wants to take my spot? Or better yet, Sam (snugug) take it?

Thanks! I will still be at the meetup, just sniffling and will try not to be infectious.

AV Event Stream URL??

robbiethegeek:
I may be incredibly dense, but is there a URL for the AV Event Stream for the streaming of tonight's meeting? I don't seem to find the information in these discussions. Can you post the URL here? Could definitely pass the word for viewers... thanks.
Tim

There won't be any stream tonight.

The gents that have been recording / live streaming will not be attending tonight there is a family issue.
