Sprint

We're kicking off the first Drupal NYC Ladders Sprint this Sunday February 10th.

The Drupal Ladder project is part of an initiative to help Drupal users get started learning and contributing back to Drupal. The stated goal is to get "just" 1% of active users on drupal.org to contribute to Drupal core by 2014.

We'll be getting started with Drupal 8. Signup (at the bottom of this post) is requested but not required. The event will run from 2:00pm-5:00pm at the offices of our gracious host,

Elephant Ventures, who have generously agreed to make their space available. It's just a half-block from Grand Central:

144 East 44th Street (10017)

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

For more information about the Ladders Project see drupalladder.org, a central place for people to find and contribute lessons and materials.

Wish I could come help, but

Wish I could come help, but I'll be out of town. Good luck, and so glad to see it starting!

What skills/background are needed to contribute?

Guessing you need various skillsets. A list would be helpful.

Thanks,
Brian

See http://drupalladder.org/ladder/ee503327-50be-1904-8d04-9499098cad64

First 4 rungs are
1) Install Drupal (Linux, Mac or Windows) - ladder recommends Dev Desktop. ( I use Quickstart)

2) Install Git

3) Getting started in the issue queue

4) Test patches

5) Write a patch

I bet you already have them.

Hey Brian,

The Ladder is designed to take people from never having installed Drupal before to contributing to Drupal core. So everything at http://drupal.org/contribute holds true in this case — if you have coding skills, that's awesome, but documentation and testing are also seriously needed. Show up and we can figure out what you might like to work on.

Thanks,
Fureigh

If you'd like to do that and write it up as an addition to the Install Drupal locally Drupal Ladder lesson, I imagine it'd be appreciated.

Here's the style guide and more information about how to contribute to lessons.

Excellent to know you're kicking off a sprint with the ladder. The D8 issue queue will appreciate the love!

Always helpful to hear of your successes and get your suggestions on lesson improvements (or @likewhoa: great to get a new ladder of the specific steps you describe!)

Give a shout if there's any way the Ladder steering committee can lend a hand!

Hoping to be there

Sounds great - a Drupal 8 Sprint for new Drupal devs/documenters/contributors (FWIW, I eschew the words newbie, noobs, etc - they're too pejorative IMO).

I will be there - weather and intervening events allowing. I can help people get up to speed, and maybe work on something in the Issues queues myself.

Snowed in - sorry

Had to cancel signup - stuck in CT. Looking forward to another shot on another (warmer?) date.

Sorry to miss you, Sam.

Sorry to miss you, Sam. Anyone who's not snowed in: see you at Elephant Ventures at 2pm today!
