The next NYC Drupal Ladders sprint is happening Sunday, February 24th. The kickoff sprint last Sunday was a lot of fun. Come join us!
The Drupal Ladder project is part of an initiative to help Drupal users get started learning and contributing back to Drupal. The stated goal is to get "just" 1% of active users on drupal.org to contribute to Drupal core by 2014. This is a great way to learn about and contribute to Drupal 8.
What's the plan?
We'll be getting started in the issue queues. By the end of the sprint you'll know how to post and contribute to issues in the Drupal issue queue.
Want to do something else? (Write a guide to installing Drupal 8 on MAMP, test patches, make other improvements?) Also cool. Go for it.
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
What to do in advance
- Sign up for an account on drupalladder.org. It's free and quick. Promise.
- Pack a laptop
- Event signup (at the bottom of this post) is requested but not required.
When
The event will run from 2:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday, February 24.
Where
Elephant Ventures, our gracious host, have once again generously agreed to make their space available. It's just a half-block from Grand Central:
144 East 44th Street, 7th Fl (10017)
I missed the kickoff/What if I don't know how to [X]?
Come anyway! We'll work it out.

I'll be there again tomorrow to help out, likely arriving at around 3 again -- and ideally do some work on Date in 8 too :). Although going forward I can likely only come once per month. Looking fwd to seeing everyone again (fureigh FTW :).

Sprinters! If you have time before this afternoon...
Request the 'not a spammer' role. You'll need it in order to be able to post issues in most areas.
We'll also go over this together, but the sooner you get the 'not a spammer' role, the sooner you can get moving.

Partly off topic…
This is completely new to me. Do some (all?) projects disallow issues from users who don't have that role?
Not only that...
...but somehow, miraculously, I seem to have already been granted the non-spammer role before having asked for it:

Curioser and curioser...
Someone trying to follow the
Someone trying to follow the Getting started in the issue queue lesson last week ran into this problem when trying to post to the Drupal 8 Sandbox issue queue. I don't know the scope of it (whether it's only for Drupal core issues, or only for users who haven't already posted in other issue queues, or...).
If anyone here has steps to replicate, please post them. I remember the error message being confusing to people who haven't used the issue queue before. Judging from the queue at https://drupal.org/project/issues/webmasters, a fair number of people have managed to figure it out, but it'd be nice to file an issue proposing a way to make the process more straightforward.
