Question for slot 2

I have an issue with core search that I'd like to present to the group for feedback.

Case question for Slot 2

I've got an annual small conference that is managed on a Drupal 7 site with 100% custom code. We are fine with the code however I will ask the group if this could be done with more off-the-shelf modules to reduce the code maintenance burden. The parameters for you to think about in the meantime are:

  • Applicants (currently after creating a site account) fill out a form to apply. There is one application only per applicant.
  • An email acknowledgement goes to the applicant.
  • An email goes to an advisor whose email was specified by the applicant. The advisor is being asked to upload a letter of recommendation. The email includes a link to a form on the site and includes a long random string as a token. The token was generated when the application was submitted and uniquely identifies the application.
  • The advisor visits the upload form as anonymous and can upload a PDF or a few other select file types. The advisor may submit this form multiple times, replacing the given letter. Letters are stored in the Drupal private filesystem.
  • A conference administrator can view a sortable table of applications that contains some important columns from the applications. From there the administrator can click to view each application.
  • Similarly, lecturers can view the applications and uploaded letters, and can comment on, each application.
  • The conference administrator may edit any application and re-upload new letters of recommendation.
  • The conference administrator later marks certain applications as accepted/wait-listed/etc. Currently, we automatically add the applicant to a "participant" site role if "accepted".
  • The participants are later sent emails asking them to fill out forms about travel needs, accommodations, etc. The administrator must be able to see and edit these submissions.
  • The administrator can download all data from all applicants in these forms as a CSV.

Wow, that sounds like a lot now that I've written it out. And I'm sure I have forgotten a few things.
