I plan to offer the theme for download along with links and such with other resources that go much more in depth. I'm likely also going to set up a demo site that has the theme and content we'll be working with in the session so that people can get their hands dirty!

learn-by-doing session

I just came across your post and was wondering if this session is going to be available/accessible to anybody interested in participating?

I work for a newly established newspaper in SC and am working on developing our website using Drupal/OpenPublish as our CMS. I'm new to Drupal and still in the early stages of this project ... so, I'd definitely be interested in participating in a "learning-by-doing" session if it'll be available on the web.

I changed the wording because I am getting the feeling that its a little misleading.

I think it would be cool to do something truly participatory but an hour is a bit short to make something like that happen. Instead, the format is going to go something like this:

I will have a site in Garland that I've received "from the developers" populated with content. In this hour, I will go through the process of theming it so that attendees can see the process. Naturally there will be time for questions and such. After, I plan to have the codebase available for download if not a whole demo site configured for people to play around with at their leisure.

Does this clarify things?

You also might want to check out Hexagon: http://drupal.org/project/hexagon

It's a base theme/starter theme we designed from the ground up as part of our Knight Drupal Initiative project.

Among other things, it's designed to support quick and easy development of subthemes. The Canvas subtheme that ships with Hexagon shows how to create a subtheme on top of Hex.

I agree with winston - an introduction to your base theme might make for a good separate session. In fact, part of what I want to give other themers in this session is the knowledge to create their own theme without having to use a base theme if they so choose. I feel like most intro to theming sessions focus on use of base themes and I personally have had good experiences creating my own.

That being said, I look forward to checking out your theme personally and hope that you'll propose a session on it!

It makes the comments seem very off the mark now.

I guess it's your call, but if this is a different session concept I'd suggest making a new session proposal and commenting here officially that you'd like that one to be considered rather than this one. If you do that I'll just take the taxonomy tagging off of this one so it won't show up as a camp session proposal any more.
